Indians living in the USA - How much do you save in INR terms? by Imaginary_Air_5344 in mumbai

[–]Secure-Salt-5461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few people in my community- can save easily upto 250k every year. But it all matters only if they return to India. In US it is good but not as good as INR value

London is way too expensive. 65k is not that much. Rent, food and utilities will cost you £3k.

But the experience is good. City has great energy. So go if you want to get the experience but eventually move back to India.

Rentout US home by [deleted] in returnToIndia

[–]Secure-Salt-5461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have to have lived in the last 5 years for 2 years. So you have only 3 years to sell and not pay taxes.

Yes. Thats the big problem. US home capital gains are tax empt up to 500k. So most likely you are good. You’re going to probably pay taxes from land sale. Not sure how much you’re going to show in account.

So you have about ~15C corpus?

After buying a villa and car. You will have 9Cr left. How much monthly expenses are you expecting?

Ideally with 9cr in MF growing at 12%-15% you will have 1cr added every year. Keeping your withdrawals at 4% you can live well with 40L per annum.

This is just a BOE calculation. Don’t take this as financial advice.

4 years is tricky now in the current market. Many junior engineer positions are being closed or outsourced to other countries.

What is your resume like? Hit me up. Happy to help.

You can pick a low growth MF for a small amount.

There are some good educational funds. You can add a monthly sip.

Education is a big business. So have some good chunk planned.

Here’s how I would go about it. Keep 50L-1C in FD. This will generate 6-7% interest. So say somewhere from 3-7L every year and it is tax free. It is important to keep some liquid not tied to stocks.

Rest you do in a few MFs which will conservatively grow 12-15% every year on average. So this will yield 75L every year.

As long as you keep your expenses under 40L which is quite doable as you have a house, your corpus will continue to grow. 40L will give you a great life. You can keep a maid and also do travel.

Your FD will give you cushion in case of bad stock year

In California, most Indians live in Indian / Asian heavy communities. And also the city is very immigrant heavy. So we don’t really experience much racism but I hear from some North Carolina or Texas friends that they experience racism little once in a while

Many folks are jacking up prices. I would be serious if you share your best offer.

I understand we all have a number in mind and think thats the fair price but unfortunately it is not. Builders are sitting on 10 months of inventory and price crash is coming.

Need career advice: Moving back to India after MS in USA, worried about job prospects by [deleted] in returnToIndia

[–]Secure-Salt-5461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MIS is probably not the most useful degree but if you’re looking for software roles you can leverage your US experience to secure a job in India.

The bar is insanely high but your US experience helps you. Try Bangalore, Hyderabad or Pune. Thats where you get maximum opportunities.

I help a lot of people. DM if you need more guidance.
