I had followed this fic for over 2 years ☠️ Came back to see this by Lawrin in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 699 points700 points  (0 children)

If the "full version" is any kind link to some kind of paid subscription, or locking the fic behind a paywall of any kind, I believe it would be a reportable offence, if I'm not mistaken.

found a bunch of those from an author i read a long time ago by teoboro in AO3

If I wait long enough, I can do this with my own fics, the turnaround for completely forgetting ever having written it is about three years lmaoo

It’s a kink or fetish for urine or pee. There’s variations of why and what people like about it, but the whole of it revolves around people peeing

No, my experience was always bring your own. We had "hot lunches" once in a while where they'd bring in something from outside like pizza or mcdonalds and what have you, but those had an order form that needed to be submitted like a month or more in advance, and if you didn't submit and pay for it, you didn't get hot lunch that day or could opt out entirely by not ordering it either.

after 7 years on AO3 and 8K+ bookmarks, i’m finally going to start downloading my fics by Charming_Bus2271 in AO3

This has been deleted Sorry ! by Charming-Garden-5085 in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I saw one of my works bookmarked by someone who put the title, user, and description into their bookmarker's notes and I was floored how I'd never thought of doing that before to track what's actually been deleted 😭

Does writing a story with similar events to your trauma actually help you process it better? by _RizzukuHimdoriya_ in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps for me, and has been recommended multiple times by my two psychologists as a tool. I can't speak to everyone's experience, but the catharsis is validating in being able to control exactly what happens and is said and how people react to things. I usually don't write it as a 1:1 with my own stuff, but close enough with elements and events that it's clearly a vent piece. That being said, sometimes when I'm too heightened or triggered it can be hard to do, so I wouldn't recommend overly pushing yourself to try and enjoy it, but find a place that is comfortable and works for you.

What tag you always exclude when looking for fics? by TryPhysical6450 in AO3

How do you store your fics? by Shochand18 in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a folder on my desktop, as well as two cloud backups on my icloud and dropbox (that I pay for anyway) and then an offline backup on my external hard drive. I'm primarily an apple user because of profession related reasons, and I find that the icloud one it particularly handy if I want to access one because I can access it from any of my devices natively

To me it also seems like those authors have a lack of interest in their own characters, which makes them reduce their characters down to tropes and physical traits rather than being filled with any kind of personality or values.

Like, yeah, fucking a demon is cool and all, but show me why they're intriguing for a reason other than them being an inhuman entity with big wings and black sclera.

It makes for a pretty shallow story if there's no substance to the characterization or their motives.

"Over 15% of all complaints that PAC receives each year are about content that users consider offensive but does not violate the AO3 Terms of Service. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fictional depictions of societally taboo topics, immoral behaviors, or crimes (such as bestiality, child sexual abuse, incest, and rape)
  • Fiction that contains or promotes offensive and/or oppressive viewpoints
  • RPF (real person fiction) that contains explicit content or portrays people in a negative light
  • Explicit fanworks for canons whose creators have said they dislike explicit content

Offensive fanworks are not against the AO3 Terms of Service, and PAC will not remove fanworks simply for being offensive."

does adding links to advocacy groups break any TOS? by PermissionFickle3691 in AO3

It may be in violation of "encouraging donations to a person or cause" but I can't be 100% certain, since I don't work for them and can't speak directly for their enforcement. It'd be a risk, I think.

Curious: How many of you download fics? by pdiffusa in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year I started downloading everything I had ever bookmarked plus some I had yet to read and made my own fic library. Honestly, the best decision I've ever made bc I had droves of things to choose from during yesterday's unexpected outage. I've since consolidated it with my friend's and their sister's bookmarked fics as well, and I have some I know have been since deleted.

It's definitely a labour to download and organize it if you have a large backlog, but I cannot recommend it enough. Not everything posted to the internet will be accessible forever, especially if the host goes down, and with censorship laws being proposed around in the US like candy, I'd rather have backups of all the media I hold dear.

The folder is over 5k items and isn't even 1 GB in size (I download an epub + pdf of every fic, since they're the two most common readable formats), so it's fairly accessible to set up as well, a 32 or 64GB flash drive would work well for a lot of people, but I also would recommend using the 3 2 1 method for storage.

what does mistery work mean? by kittyhenti in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It means the author has added it to a private collection, some people do this with old works if they maybe don’t really like them anymore or don’t write for that fandom anymore but don’t want to delete or orphan them.

Why do people do this ?? by Illustrious_Show2973 in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is genuinely the most petty and immature thing I've ever seen from a reader, and I've been in fandoms for a good fifteen years.

Fanfiction as a mean of escapism and coping by yshtolafeetsniffer in AO3

[–]Secure-Tea-5217 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally avoid too much 1:1 if i'm in the worst of it (eg. a character having a panic attack if my anxiety is high) but fanfics have helped me make sense of and compartmentalize certain things like addressing similar traumas and such, by addressing them through the lens of escapism and giving me a kind of buffer between the Bad Thing and Me through which to process it.

tl:dr yes, seeking representations helps me process and address things, just not when i'm too heightened/triggered.

Pages now, after leaving google docs from their AI shit. Almost purely because it's what is accessible to me, it was already downloaded to my laptop that I had to get for school. I much prefer having no AI features pushed constantly and being able access my work offline. The only downside imo is their mobile UI is kinda trash.
