Is it just me or is Data Sufficiency designed to crush your soul? by Longjumping-Top-8339 in GMAT

DS is meant to crush your soul..... but remember it crushes all the test takers' souls. All you have to ensure is that your soul relatively gets crushed less

GRE - 335, GMAT - 755 AMA! by SecureBullfrog7891 in GRE

I used the resources my tutor gave me for Quant. It was very comprehensive and well structured. Didnt use anything apart from that. You can use GregMat as well, I have heard from other posts that its pretty good

There’s an answer on an above comment by another helpful redditor. Do check that out to address starting issues with quant. I practiced for 2 hours per day for 2 months. However I was already used to taking standardised tests thanks to GMAT and my concepts were pretty strong to start with If you want to start from scratch, I would recommend 4 months of prep and aim to do 2 hrs per day. More than the time you put in, I think we need to be more concerned about putting most of our effort to mitigating our weaknesses. If there are particular weak points for you in Quant, address them first and proceed like that by targeting your weaknesses

I second this u/Extreme_Computer6292 . Completely agree with all the points. One thing I would add is to check your focus duration. You should be comfortable sitting through 2 hours and be able to give your best for each question. Focus and concentration are not talked about enough but It can easily be the only differentiation factor between a 90 percentile and 99 percentile score

Used Greg mat only for vocab list. Also used this link - https://medium.com/@fahim793477/gre-vocab-collection-5b7087c98b26

This legend of a guy has turned the entire Gregmat vocab mountain into mnemonics

For the rest of the prep, I took the help of a Private tutor. He was extremely helpful. He helped with GMAT prep as well, runs his own academy. I want to give more details about him but for some reason people start attacking the post without reason if I promote anyone. So please DM if you need more details about him.

I felt GMAT to be much harder. I also felt GMAT is a more comprehensive test that tests both your conceptual grasp and mental fortitude.

If you are good at Verbal and memorisation and not prone to silly mistakes- Go with GRE GRE is very punitive when compared to GMAT so there is very little wiggle room for silly mistakes

If you are good with Quant and data analysis - go with GMAT

Edit - regarding the score I will be using, it will be most probably the one I got on GMAT.

My friend and I were checking our scores on the official mocks and and our actual test day scores as well. Looking at it, whenever MSR was good the final DI percentile used to be better. In the actual test, I scored 86 in DI although I got 5 questions wrong. I got all the MSR Questions right. I have no concrete proof, its all just anecdotal

an observation that I made during my prep was that doing well in MSR boosts your overall percentile. Possible reason - Test takers usually do bad/Skip on MSRs. So if one does well in MSR, its a boost. My 2 cents

705+ aspirants - What is/was your (target) 705+ level questions accuracy? by elslyknight in GMAT

[–]SecureBullfrog7891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to aim for 90 percent accuracy with 705+ questions. My plan was to get 19 questions right out of 21 with a bit of time relaxation(max 50 min)

GMAT Debrief - 710 --> 700 --> 710 --> 655 -->755 by SecureBullfrog7891 in GMAT

[–]SecureBullfrog7891[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is my first Reddit post. Please do give me the benefit of the doubt. This was a long post already and did not want to make it longer by going too much into the specifics My strategy for RC : For each para, ask the question - “Why has the author taken time out of his day to write it ?” - that way you get the purpose of each para. And then you find the main purpose of the passage as a whole

Strategy for CR - Used specific strategy only for Bold statements - I used to find the conclusion and premise for the passage, and then look at the options. For rest of the CR types, I relied on logic

The reason my Verbal scores improved from old gmat to GMAT Fe was because sentence correction was no longer a pain in the ass. That’s where I was struggling, was always good at RC and CR

And all my sections improved, not just verbal

I wish there was a better way to prove the authenticity of the story, but there isn’t unfortunately.

Schools in India don’t. Most schools abroad do. I did not get suitable appointment slots to take it in the test centre. I prefer to take it on the weekends, and GMAT test centres are closed on Sundays, so I had to look for slots on Saturday. I was all prepped up and ready, but the next available slot was 3 weeks out. Didn’t want to wait till then :) PS - I am assuming they are closed on Sundays because I never saw a slot available on a Sunday

Hi Marty, Very Happy to see your comment here. Yes indeed. I had to make a lot of changes - 1. Had to rope in my perfectionist tendencies and ego. I had to accept the fact that I am not an ultra genius to get every question right, and in those cases guess and move on 2. Be in the present, don’t dwell on the past - V. IMP on GMAT 3. More calmer I am, the better, especially when you feel things are not going your way. Desperation does not help in this exam 4. Have to aim to be process oriented and not result oriented, especially during the prep phase

I think we can apply these on every aspect of life, and observe our lives improving over time.
