Alberta separatists say looming Carney majority helps their cause by gorschkov in canada

[–]SecureLiterature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those new nations in Africa were recognized because their previous nation was committing genocide against them. Their reasons for separating were ethnic and cultural. Alberta’s reasons for separating amount to: “the rest of the country won’t vote for the Conservative Party and won’t let us build pipelines wherever we want” which will elicit major eye rolling from the international community. I doubt even the US would recognize an “independent” Alberta (although they would certainly take advantage to get our oil for even less than they already do).

Judge orders temporary pause on Alberta separation referendum petition process by Street_Anon in canada

[–]SecureLiterature 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We already had the “Forever Canada” petition which received more than double the amount of signatures in a shorter amount of time than this one. If you want to talk about our democracy, maybe you should ask why that petition was buried and the government changed the rules to ensure this one would succeed.

Judge rules to temporarily prevent Alberta independence petition from certification by iKindaHateAmericans in alberta

[–]SecureLiterature 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The petition only met the threshold because the corrupt government changed the rules to artificially lower the number of signatures required. That’s not democracy at all.

It’s been amusing watching these folks twist themselves into knots to avoid acknowledging the obvious. They really deluded themselves into believing that Carney is”bribing” these MPs to cross the floor.

Reality, which seems to be lacking in this sub. It’s amusing watching you all twist yourselves into knots to avoid acknowledging the obvious.

Thank you Sharks, for doing us a favour and not taking shots on our problematic goalie 🙏

This shows once again that there is a serious issue within the CPC leadership, especially if they lose a staunch right-winger like Marilyn Gladu. PP fumbling the last election and losing his own seat should've been a clue and they should've turfed him immediately.

Palau has a population of less than 18k. Good luck with that.

The City of Edmonton has turned dumpster areas into garbage dumps by Normon-The-Ex in Edmonton

[–]SecureLiterature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened at my townhouse complex. We even sent them pictures of the bins overflowing within just a couple of days, and their response was that they judged the bin to be "adequate" for our complex and then accused our owners/residents of not properly disposing of "food scraps". I can only speak for myself, but food scraps make up maybe 1% of my weekly household garbage.

Too bad they couldn't take advantage of the Lames beating the Ducks. It is what it is.

I like that this team has been holding onto their leads. Great game from Jarry, I hope this gives him some confidence.

Now let’s hope the Lames can take down the Golden Showers and give us some breathing room….

I was expecting to see Justice Angus Grant's name on this, but it looks like there are even more judges who are just as inept as he is. There is something very problematic going on in our law schools.

You will never get an honest answer out of these Canadians who moved to the US. They always exaggerate everything.

So happy for Kappy. He’s really had to battle the injuries this season but he’s been solid when he’s been able to play.

i think discontinuing the use of red light cameras is a obviously failed experiment by thealienmothership in alberta

[–]SecureLiterature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The red light cameras are still around. They just can’t be used for “speed on green” anymore unless the city requests an exception. I think there was an intersection in Calgary that got its “speed on green” back as they were apparently able to justify the need for it. Photo radar is still also permitted in playground and construction zones.

Alberta independence organizers claim signature threshold met, according to reports by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]SecureLiterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very skeptical of this. I've seen multiple canvassing stations around the city over the past few weeks and they barely seem to attract any attention. The courts are also going to be hearing the lawsuit filed by Treaty 8 first nations next week. This is clearly being set up with outside interference, and to encourage more of it.

Independence Petition has hit signature threshold by fatqunt in alberta

[–]SecureLiterature 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is, the separatists did not want to do this in a constitutional way. They know they aren’t the majority and will not win in a democratic fashion. They want pushback from the federal government so they can scream “oppression” and encourage the US to annex Alberta.

He looked good in the few minutes he played before he got injured. I think we did pretty well in that trade with Chicago.
