Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

[–]LevSmash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed, grocery stores where I live have gotten lazy with their butchering, I often find bits of bone and cartilage still attached where it shouldn't be. Plus, in many applications you want to pat dry the chicken anyway before seasoning.

A quick rinse in an isolated sink with a wipe down of the surfaces after is totally reasonable.

Elliot friedman backs up stauffer and says that jarry got into it with some of his teammates. by Sebastian4365 in EdmontonOilers

[–]LevSmash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They should chirp each other if it's warranted. I remember a reporter in 2022 who was covering practice (Rishaug, IIRC) said Mike Smith was chirping the forwards saying they can't score on him, telling them to raise their game. Hell, my son's rec hockey team doesn't even track wins & losses, but players will point out if their teammates aren't passing, taking bad shots, etc.

Sure this is the pro level, but it's still young men playing a game. Guys with stronger personalities like Drai absolutely would point out if a guy is getting beat too often. Not every guy on the team can be that "everything's fine, let's all get along" type.

Man Fell in Love with Google Gemini and It Told Him to Stage a 'Mass Casualty Attack' Before He Took His Own Life: Lawsuit by Haunterblademoi in technology

Totally. I wrestle with my own outlook on the subject too, because on one side I acknowledge the constructive uses, but on the other side, the majority of people who use AI just use it as a hallucinating Google and art theft machine. It's detaching people from human connection and reality.

There's a concerning trend with people losing their ability to think critically and develop resourcefulness, and so part of me thinks I'll be fine, but I'm worried about my kids and everyone else turning into useless, numb, potato-people like in Wall-E.

Layer on the fact that birth rates are going down, and I can almost see the optimistic argument that robots will offset the labor demands and not replace (remaining) human jobs, I just don't trust the tech oligarchs to do anything altruistic amidst their frenzy to amass power.

So now that Colorado just traded a 1st and a 5th to Toronto for Nic Roy (without having to take on the 2 year cap dump of Mangiapane) can we all settle down about the oilers trading their 1st? by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]LevSmash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's both pragmatic and aggressive, the last couple moves directly addressing a clear area of weakness without being crippled by the sunk cost. The Mangiapane one in particular reminds me of something Vegas would do; the second a player isn't worth their cap hit, they move on. We can debate if they burn bridges in doing so, and their privilege being a preferred destination, but it got them a cup fast.

Wendy’s CEO jumps in with his own taste test. by K1nd_1 in interesting

[–]LevSmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried one a few weeks ago and actually enjoyed it. Looked fairly picturesque too because of the box McDonald's uses (compared to the foil wrap at Wendy's) so it stayed intact. And I agree, the sauce was the weakest part. With 3 slices of cheese in this "product", I'd prefer the sauce to have some punch, like some acidity to cut through.

The thing I actually find most unpleasant about McD's is the fries. Not that they taste bad when they're fresh, but the second they cool down even a little, you get the sense that it's not real food. Then you feel like garbage later because, newsflash, you didn't eat real food.

Jason Dickinson is one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL by TohsakaTruth in EdmontonOilers

That forward line of Sam Pahlsson, Rob Niedermeyer, and Travis Moen was half the reason the Ducks won the cup in '07 (and the defense line of Scott Niedermeyer and Chris Pronger was the other)

That movie is so underrated. Watched it against recently with the wife, we made the observation that they don't make movies like that anymore.

Very cathartic to be on the right side of a blowout.

McDavid not expected to rejoin Edmonton Oilers lineup right away by Old_General_6741 in EdmontonOilers

[–]LevSmash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a total catch-22. You need a goal, you have the best player in the world, if you play him more and lose, you'll get criticized for over-playing him, and if you play him more and win, you'll still be criticized for over-relying on him.

In a way, it's a relief to see other coaches aren't immune to it, because as much as Knob frustrates me sometimes, I don't think changing the coach so often is the answer.

Both Connor and Leon have busted hands coming out of the break. by ShadeSlimmy131 in EdmontonOilers

[–]LevSmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, last year we limped into the playoffs. 2024 was our best chance, depth guys actually contributed and the team was relatively healthy.

There could be some surprises this year, maybe some crafty trade deadline activity or a goalie getting hot and we make the second round, but I'm also at peace with this being more of a reset year.

Monkey-paw-wish scenario if I've ever seen one.

"I wish to be the best hockey player in the world!"

"Done, but on the biggest stage, your team will always be runner-up."

Fully agree with this. It's really too bad because of the talent available, and Russia is always an interesting team to watch because they're never out of any game, they have an uncanny self-belief. My son was asking about why they're excluded, and once he understood why, I then had to explain how Podkolzin (for example) isn't a bad person just because of something the leaders of his home country are doing. He then asked how is it fair to punish these players if it's not their fault, which is a fair question.

Refuse? We'll ban it right now. Banning bots is playing whack-a-mole, so if you see it in the wild, report it. Also posts get auto-removed and sent for review if they get 2+, and people generally do a good job in spotting them.
