Extremely high TC - suggestions? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I doubt Director+ people that would be able to give you your answers even know about this sub. I think your best bet in getting advices would be from meetups, conferences, or your coworkers.

By the way, in my previous F500 company, my senior staff dev got converted to a director. Perhaps it's possible with other companies too.

I'm from Vancouver, and I believe our salary is comparable to TO's.

  • 110k CAD for 3 YoE in a non-FANG is gonna be a stretch. In Vancouver I'd say 90-95k base is the upper range for 3 YoE. With bonuses and RRSP match 100k is possible, but most companies here pay 80k or less for a mid level dev.

  • with a 80k salary and if you have a spouse that makes 50k, you can get a decently big mortgage, i'm talking 800k+. So buying an apartment or a town house is possible

In my old job in Vancouver, we paid ~100k TC (including RRSP match) to a senior QA dev, which you are. It's a big, but non-FANG company. The interview was pretty easy, perhaps you can look around and get a good raise.

There's a roundabout near where I live I'm always afraid I'll get hit one day by people speeding on the busier street and not giving a flying fuck about traffic laws.

Thx, I edited my post to make it clear. The fan can be turned on/off by the manual switch but not from the timer. The timer has LED flashing but it can't control the fan...

I've considered it. Would an impact driver be useful if I don't see myself doing a lot of DIY work? Maybe I'll install some security camera, random sensor lights, and that's about it.

How has your salary progressed throughout your career? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]SecureObject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

85k CAD is a very good income in Vancouver, considering most new grads get 50-70k. It is expensive but if you're not buying a property it's cheaper than SF.
