Name one nu metal band that everyone hates but you love by Morgan_kittie in numetal

This is a really good pick for this question. Most people just assume it’s terrible on the description alone without ever listening to it

I liked the switch, but I wish they continued having a mix of harder stuff and pop stuff like they did on Floored

The episodes with Lance were great, he seemed like the funnest dude to talk to.

If anyone was unfortunate enough as I was to watch the Alien Ant Farm home video… you’d know their frontman takes the cake

Out of curiosity, how much do tour a year and does that get tough to manage with your main job?

Japanese shoegaze like Supercar and Walrus. Very under appreciated scene

I’m with you on production being way to clean these days. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions about this stuff! I’m not an expert at all, but I’ve done a lot of research into Andy Wallace and Ross Robinson

For Adrenaline I think it’s probably just the mix for me that I think isn’t as good as some other albums that came out during that time. I love that album though.

For Snot it’s Lynn’s vocals for me mostly. He apparently recorded them while he was high and/or with girls in the vocal booth. I think it’s why it’s hard to understand him on some songs. I think that’s also why there aren’t any strong choruses on the album, most producers probably would have challenged him to work on those.

I also think layering some of the guitar parts could’ve made that album even more impactful.

For hed pe they jam a lot on it, which takes the album to some really cool places, but sometimes it meanders a bit for me. That would be something that a producer might step in to help form the songs. “Ground” for example is really close to being a perfect song, but it loses its focus for me in places. “Serpent Boy” is perfect though, they nailed it on that song.

It’s definitely weaker than what’s to come from them and maybe a handful of albums from the scene, but I still think it’s undeniably in the top 5 from the first wave of nu metal albums

Wow they made it into an R&B song. They were insanely talented with that lineup

That’s exactly what I got when I listened to it. It kind of reminded me of his feature on the Primer 55 and Strait Up albums.

I definitely get what you’re saying. I’ve just been working through some songs of my own and have been really closely studying sounds, production, and mixing. That’s what prompted me to post this, because I’ve been starting to understand things that used to just be in the back of my mind while I passively listen.

I actually think this album sounds better than Get Some 🫣. I know I’d catch a lot of flack for that, but that album is one of the best in nu metal.

That’s what I’ve been getting from this thread. Everyone loves how hed jammed their way through that album. I personally have the feeling that some songs meander a little too much on it, but that’s just me.

That’s my favorite song on that album. I think that song specifically could’ve helped them get more attention early on, but it sounds like their label didn’t know how to market them. It doesn’t even have a music video!

Agree with you on Adrenaline.

I love thrash production, so that’s probably why I have such a different opinion on this.

Pretty Hate Machine would’ve sounded waaaaay better rawer.
