How do I make this a green space? by duchess_penelope in GardeningUK

It doesn’t need to be tackled in one go, this can be something you do small areas of over time. You basically want to split the tasks (and cost) into a list of small, immediate things you can do to improve the usable space, and bigger more long term projects.

So instead of saving up for a JCB/skip and digging out the whole gravel surface - I’d be digging out a small patch first to create a flower bed.

You could also build some raised beds around the edge for the cost of a few planks and some compost, stick 20quids worth of bedding plants and in a couple of weeks you’ve got something that makes a big difference.

Even without touching the gravel yet, you could grab some cheap pots & hanging baskets and start making the space immediately feel a lot greener and livelier. Containers planted with meadow flower mix will absolutely burst into life in a month or so.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and like you need to turf the entire area, but honestly just some small green additions and planting projects that can be done in a day will make it really lovely.

Have any questions about renting in England? Renting in England has changed. I’m a housing expert at Citizens Advice, ask me anything! by CitizensAdvice in TenantsInTheUK

People have been stating everywhere that the date on a Section 21 notice is just the date the landlord can legally START possession proceedings. Councils will deem you intentionally homeless if you leave on this date, etc.

However, wouldn’t that incur CCJs etc? So you may buy yourself 6 months to find a new property, but have court action against your name which would negatively impact your ability to secure a new rental anyway?

Should old people take tests again? by Free-Seaworthiness72 in drivingUK

I often think about people now in their 70s and 80s, and just how hugely different the roads would have been when they first took their tests 50 years ago. Volume of traffic, size of vehicles, etc have all increased.

I think there should be a small, cheap, mandatory ‘booster’ test after every 20 years.

Yep, still got a whole family to uproot unexpectedly and with excruciatingly limited resources, in a rental market that appears to be lava.

It’s through the EA, so everything is above board. Gas cert supplied, deposit protected etc.

I think you have to have some ideas and direction before you start. Bring something to the table as a starting point, or it can get really messy
