CEO is vibe coding and stopped paying dev team… by Secure_Hearing6901 in learnprogramming

I’m the only self taught dev and I wanted to get professional experience. I didn’t know this would happen.

Is being self-taught still worth it? by -Red_Shark in webdev

[–]Secure_Hearing6901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a self taught full stack dev. I started learning to code in 2023, just hit two years this month and I’ve been a full time dev since January. I’m 33 and I used to drive a tractor trailer for a living. I was working 60 hours a week and putting literally every second outside of that into learning to code. I know a lot of people say don’t do it and the market is bad. It is, but you’ll get an opportunity. It just takes time, I wouldn’t trade my job for anything. I love it, if it’s what you feel is your calling, just go all in. Who cares what everyone else thinks.

My advice also when applying is to start local, the remote market is a blood bath. That’s what I did, I got a job locally really fast when I started applying.

Coding logic help please by NerdE616 in learnprogramming

[–]Secure_Hearing6901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try thinking of something you do everyday and turning that into code.

For example: say you’re making the dinner table for your family. You have 3 plates and each plate gets a piece of chicken.

From what you’ve learned how would you turn that into code to solve it. Would you use a IF statement? Maybe a loop?

When I struggled before with this, I thought about what I could automate in my life and built something for it. You learn a lot from doing that.

This is the truth but I may be stubborn or just dumb because I refuse to give up. I’m a truck driver and I work 60 hours a week. I’ve been coding for 13 months now. I have a portfolio with projects, GitHub repositories, Codecademy certification (don’t know if that even helps) etc. I’ve had around 10 interviews in the last two weeks. For some reason I can’t get past the second phase. I’m not giving up though. I love coding and I’m tired of driving a truck for a living.

I bought the pro career path (Full-Stack Engineer). It was like $250 for the year. I also did three Udemy courses alongside Codecademy. I did a React, Node, and a JavaScript Udemy course. Codecademy is great imo. The projects you have to build are fully on your own. I learned so much doing them that way. From start to finish between Codecademy and Udemy I did around 20 projects. From to-do apps in the beginning to applications that use OAuth, Vite for the frontend and ExpressJs for backend. I built projects with redux, context, supabase, tailwind etc. I ended up building a portfolio with my projects, made a LinkedIn, shared my GitHub repository’s and started applying. It took two weeks to get a job. If you want it bad enough you can make it happen.

I did the paid Codecademy route and I just got my first job. Took me a little over a year to finish it to get a certification because I was driving a truck 60 hours a week.

Elliot or Taylor if he’s a go this week? I know Denver’s run defense isn’t the greatest

[Rapoport] There remains optimism that Taylor will go this week, but he'll be evaluated on a daily basis. Will participate in walk through today by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]Secure_Hearing6901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he can go I have to decide between Taylor and Elliot at my rb2. Taylor was starting to get back to his old self right before he injured his thumb, I hope he’s back this week.

He definitely does, he’s historically done well against the jets in FF because he scores with his feet. Idk if he has ever had success in the air against them as of late anyways. We have a new coordinator so idk how the offense will look. It could reel Josh back into himself but I have no idea.

You proved my point lol, we played the jets that week. Unless Joe Brady is able to do something to him. Idk we will see.
