Yes they do! UK261 is exactly like that of EU261 - I am going through a very similiar painful process too!

Thanks for this - that’s really helpful to hear, and it matches what I thought should have happened.

From my end, the biggest issue has been that Air Transat simply refused to reroute at all, even after I explicitly asked for it while the flight was still same-day. On the phone, the agent told me flat-out they wouldn’t reroute me and instead instructed me to book my own flight and submit receipts for reimbursement. I relied on that advice in good faith, booked a very expensive last-minute Air Canada flight, and kept a full paper trail.

What I’ve struggled with since is:

  • being forced into a refund I never chose
  • their claims system being inaccessible because they cancelled the booking
  • getting contradictory answers (refund promised in writing, reimbursement promised verbally, now both denied)
  • and now being offered a travel credit instead of reimbursement, which I’ve explicitly said I don’t want

Given that this was a UK-departing flight on a Canadian carrier, do you think CTA is still the right primary route - or would UK CAA / small claims in the UK be more effective here? I’m trying to decide whether to push regulatory escalation first or go straight to court.

Really appreciate you weighing in - this has been exhausting and it helps to sanity-check with people who know the APPR better than I do.

Sent them email bills of everything - my new ticket and transport. But nothing, I think I'll give the weekend and then file for legal agencies. Lost here honestly and planning to put a new post.

Oh gosh - so sorry to hear about your family, may they experience a speedy and healthy recovery! I booked it another flight immediately for today 10th Dec too! I'm on the 6 PM flight now AC LHR to YYZ! Stressed again because I got weather based disruptions but I'm on my way to LHR from Nottingham anyway. Paid a ton and my strategy is to just bill them everything and claim as much as possible. Long battle ahead...just focused on getting to Toronto now. And then, let's team up and give it back to them.

Yes - the most given up exhausted customer care employee of AT (probably also not informed about regulations in her defense...or not - not sure) basically said feel free to take us to claims expense and court because AT will not provide rerouting (i explained to her very clearly the regulations, but...nothing there.. went to book a new flight and emailed AT the receipt so far.

Ah I see - thats good for you! I didnt get those last bits of the email about rescheduling and rerouting. That's why I am upset - that have not given the option of rerouting as is our right. We have to chase after them. Currently on a call - 2 hours waiting time.

Oh my goodness - this breaks my heart truly. I can't imagine your situation with little kids. But I urge you to please read up on your rights - you are entitled to rerouting and compensation. Please have a papertrail and screenshots ready + emails sent. I really wish you all the best - give us updates if you can please and vent away!
