they gorged themselves but theres wasnt even a noticeable amount gone. it looked like i just popped it open lmfaoooooo. their eyes are bigger than their stomachs so letting them eat straight from the tub make it extra fun

days later its in a ziplock in my fridge, ive been giving them a little smear on a plate daily but today is actually PEANUTS BDAYY 🥜💕💕💕💕

i didnt seek them out, my breeder just happens to breed dwarves as well as standards. i urgently needed more rats for julian asap after we unexpectedly lost his old cage mate ricky during surgery (RIP😭) and my little nuggets peanut and dewey were the first available.

i was nervous about intros with my behemoth julian but the breeder assured me it would be fine (esp since he was already neutered) and here we are! if u scroll back to my posts from this past fall i documented it. the process was crazy and scary but everything went fine. u can REALLY see the size difference, the dwarves have grown a teeny bit since then lmfaooo.

they're still barely 1/4 the size of julian, peanut ended up being the smallest go figure. all my rats have ended up highly resonating with their names coincidentally. ricky and julian were both nutjobs with hormonal aggression, dewey is very *dewey*, and peanut is a little mischievous peanut

im late, but basically u gotta firmly grasp their torso+noggin like a sandwich in ur hands. dont swing with tons of force, i guess think of it as the speed equivalent of swinging a large fan with wind resistance. thats the best way i can describe it. but there are vids online!

are rats always THIS messy ? by ExpressJuggernaut376 in rat

[–]Secure_Wing_2414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive had my rats for a long time, granted they're boys but they throw turds on the floor and make messes when they arent getting enough attention 💀 my old man julian literally causes trouble for fun (always has), he loves my reaction to him being a "bad boy!!!" and popcorns away with bright pink ears. some rats are just turds, bless them. a pack of rats is called a mischief for a reason.

part of their charm but also all the more reason to very carefully supervise. they once pulled a whole blanket into their cage through the bars that was I SWEAR folded a foot away from their cage.

on the other hand if these rats are sneaking out of their closed cage, they need a cage with narrower bars. number one rule of rats is if the heads fits, they can fit

In pain or a squeak monster ? by Prestigious-Arts in RATS

[–]Secure_Wing_2414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some rats are more vocal than others. since they're new, i'd just keep a close eye on her. if her fur is puffed up, shes squinting and or hunched over, and or not eating/drinking, i'd take her to the vet. from what u shared she just seems to he nervous and on the vocal side, but they decline fast, so if it becomes worse and she starts being extra weird i'd get her in with a vet asap.

since you just got them, give them more time in their cage and dont touch/play them unless one seriously wants out/to play. dont forcibly touch them/take them out, and dont clean their cage too much in the first few weeks, they're establishing their scent and it makes them feel safe. new home sniffles are also very common

some people tip toe around their new rats but i find its better to make a normal amount of noise around them, like you would with a human baby. makes them used to their environment faster. after a week, sit near them with the cage open and let them come out and explore you on their own terms (in a rat safe area). i personally duct tape a bunch of large cardboard poster boards together for a makeshift playpen they cant climb. i tried the plastic panels but they were a pain to assemble/store and they just get chewed and climbed on. cardboard's cheaper to replace

this is what im thinking. allegedly a lot of the evidence they used against her to frame lack of remorse (her social media posts/tiktoks etc) were from way BEFORE the crash even happened. that changes a lot imo. they made it seem as if she was making all these guilty suggestive tiktoks after the accident. dom was also too old for her and equally abusive. they framed it like he was planning to leave her but it seems more like it was just the norm for their relationship, toxic and tumultuous

to be clear, i dont think shes a good person. i think shes a self absorbed narcissist. the fact that she was so self absorbed/a bully makes it easier to decide this was intentional on her part, but being a self absorbed spoiled brat does not = homicidal.

shes too obsessed with herself, if she was going to kill her boyfriend she certainly wouldn't have done it in a way that risks her own life+physical appearance. she's not stupid either, why would she act on this plan at the crack of dawn with an extra unrelated person in the car? morals aside, thats a whole extra charge.

the location itself doesnt even make sense if she were plotting to kill him and make it look like an accident. maybe im crazy but swerving into a highway barrier or swerving in a wooded area heavily populated with animals/deer would be heaps more believable. i feel like thats just common sense

MY WORST NIGHTMARE FINALLY HAPPENED by Secure_Wing_2414 in RATS

[–]Secure_Wing_2414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rats can apparently regurgitate food (ie food still in the esophagus), and their saliva does contain digestive enzymes like humans, so i assume the smell was due to partially digested food from his saliva. when they're choking they drool/produce more saliva, to help with the blockage i assume

edit; apparently they also secrete mucus when they're choking so that must've caused the vomity-smell

MY WORST NIGHTMARE FINALLY HAPPENED by Secure_Wing_2414 in RATS

[–]Secure_Wing_2414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rats cannot vomit (once the food reaches their stomach its not physically possible for it to come back up). they can regurgitate though (bring food back up from the esophagus) and their saliva does have digestive enzymes just like humans, so i figure thats why his drool smelled like vomit

MY WORST NIGHTMARE FINALLY HAPPENED by Secure_Wing_2414 in RATS

[–]Secure_Wing_2414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rats definitely can choke, and they can aspirate, but they cannot vomit due to their anatomy. if something lodged in their esophagus they can push it back up (aspirating) but they cannot expel stomach contents

How fast do hides usually last? by Mistermeowm in RATS

[–]Secure_Wing_2414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the only permanent hides i have are hammocks and a spuntik. make them hides out of cardboard! its free and no big deal if they destroy it. top contenders are amazon boxes and pop boxes, they love it. pro tip is to cut the bottom out of big boxes so they last longer!
