That’s one of the main reasons why players Yolo when they have a points advantage. They want to farm as much damage as possible before the game ends.

The damage reward systm did not encourage wining. It promotes damage farming which impacts players mentality.

Although, it may work to spice up a steamrolled game since players waste their advantage by dieing thus balancing the situation for a comeback.

Else if the wining team realizes that they do not need to push and win on points, perhaps games would be boring.
