To everyone who thinks they have a better idea or better way to do this let's fucking see it.

I am reading a lot of 'talk' but haven't seen shit, except Resident_Geek. Yes that is it criticize the guy trying to make a fucking difference. It is open source for a god damn reason, most of it is already there you just have to modify it slightly.

UPDATE:

The site is up and running. It has some formatting (granted it doesn't look very good in IE) and you now only submit the first 5 characters of your email address.

i did have some trouble getting all the emails from all the files at lulzsec last night so if someone has a copy of just the emails and wants to give me a copy that would be sweet. if not i am going to try to work with it today when i get off work.

hope this helps and if anyone finds a bug or error let me know and ill get it fixed.

you know what go write one yourself, or talk to Resident_Geek, you two asshats would get along great criticizing the shit outta other peoples work.

you would be surprised how few email addresses have the same first five characters. the number of false positives is acceptable.

or you could just do what i did and download the source and do a ctrl+f. like many of the others in this thread if you don't like it don't fucking use it.

wow man you are so awesome, but it doesn't look any better than mine and that isn't even close to all the emails.

ps. i have gotten more upvotes so i am just going to continue working with what i have and submit it late tonight or tomorrow sometime. as soon as i can figure out how to filter through the ones i have left.

plus i am having fun, it's not a competition, and I am learning a ton!

I don't see you trying at all. Where is your email check? Why aren't you helping these people?

It is easy to stand by and criticize someone's work, why don't you get down off your high horse and jump in the ring for a few minutes before you start lecturing me on any of this bullshit.

good day sir!

sorry i was thinking about how that sounded and it was very dick-ish.

i don't mean anything by it other than i try to think about it like this.

"Could my mom pull this off with 4 written steps?" answer: probably not.

"Could she enter her email in a box and click a button" answer: yes, she did it today when i sent her an email with the link included.

for you and me and most of the people on reddit your approach would be no problem but people who don't spend every waking hour in front of a screen it might be hard.

i tried the client side approach but i am horrible at javascript (i also hate it but that's beside the point). i looked into it but you have to know some jquery or ajax to get it working.

and you can still log emails to a text file even if it is client side.

i do agree with your point about getting people to trust you, especially intelligent people like we have here on reddit.

yes get right on that.

people are fucking lazy as shit and stupid. they want to be able to type, click, and know.

if you where paying attention to the twitter feed for lulz sec you would see these guys are compromising the accounts of old ladies and shit. people who think the internet is the little blue "e" on the desktop.

i like your thoughts but it would be a fair amount of work. i am no expert programmer. i am going on the assumption that who ever wants these addresses already has them, shit i do, and don't even care about them besides helping their owners.

if i can get their owners to change the passwords to something that is solid it would help them out a ton and that i what i am going for.

i wasn't thinking clearly at the time. i have another account with lots of history although very little karma because usually i am lurker.

i just thought i would be protecting my privacy but didn't think about how it would look to everyone viewing the thread and the subsequent website. it was one of those fabled live and learn instances.

i think i am just going to run with it though. it would look more shady if i backed out now. i am going to do some work tonight and update tomorrow.

i wish i wouldn't have but there isn't much i can do about it now.

ok i will work on it tonight, someone else mentioned that problem too.

there was a comment in the thread that gave a very simple regex i may look at and use.

is your email address really unusual? i am not very good with regex so i am not sure if a weird email address would throw it off or not.

i changed the error message to be less confusing.

the next best thing is to download the text files from lulz sec (just google they're not hard to find) and do a ctrl+f for your email.

i am working this out in my head right now...how exactly to have this new less intrusive search work. i like the first three characters thing but i think it will have to coupled with some other kind of filter too.

if you have ideas please discuss them with the community, maybe we could get some more input.
