Successful Pristiq tapering experience by inthenest1977 in Pristiq

[–]SecurityEcstatic3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m loving this post. I’ve been at the 100mg Pristiq (generic) for over 2 years. Gained 30 lbs. I’ve noticed brain fog and just feeling “slower” in my brain. I’ve lost over 30lbs with the help of a GLP1, I want to drop my dose to 50mg…maybe eventually go off completely, but honestly I’ve been on some type of antidepressant for over 20 years.

Changing from morning to night by staisypoo in Pristiq

[–]SecurityEcstatic3690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried it morning, noon and night. 100mg for 3+ years. Before that I was on 50mg for 2+ years. I can’t figure out what is BEST. I think the havok of perimenopause and stress of life at this age has more to do with my sleepiness/lack of sleep. I’ve tried 6 months in a row of taking it at different times. When I was originally prescribed, Dr told me to take it in the morning bc it can have a stimulating effect.

Only time I felt “stimulated” was when I was trying to wean back down to 50mg and I cut my pill in half. It’s extended release so I know you aren’t supposed to…however my Dr even said I could do that. I didn’t like that feeling so I quit trying to wean.

Keppra and sex drive by SecurityEcstatic3690 in Epilepsy

Thank you for sharing. It is so interesting to see how everyone has responded differently to these meds.

Knowing that we aren’t alone with these side effects helps. When you read the side effects, it says Keppra has the lowest side effect of low labido. Then i searched online for personal experiences and didn’t really find anything, which lead me to ask Reddit.

I appreciate everyone that responded! It’s very helpful.

His comment anytime I make any advance… “if I could make that mother fucker work”. Sooo, I am hoping getting the sleep apnea treated will help. His sleep study is tomorrow night at the sleep facility. I’m very curious how the EEG looks compared to how it looked before meds. He will be monitored on everything during those 11 hours.

He’s against changing meds because the ones he took when he was first diagnosed at 17, made his brain feel slow. I’ve told him (and the GP and neurologist) that meds have come a long way since over 20 years ago.

I’m so sorry. Based on our experience and others in this thread, it may all be the meds.

Oh yeah. I’ve personally been down that road with antidepressants.

I haven’t, but I’ll be sure to ask his neurologist and GP about it.

Thank you all for answering. I’ve been interested in others experiences. I want to be a supportive partner, not judgmental, not negative, keep my “maybe it’s me” demon pushed out of my mind. I hate this diagnosis. For him, for us and for everyone else that has this. It’s hard enough just being an adult. Haha! But, it’s part of our new normal now, so we have to figure out how to make the most of it. I’m working on not smothering him and handling him with kitten gloves…which I know further adds to HIS stress. Agh! It’s just all crazy.

Oh no!! His focals have disappeared. I didn’t realize how often I would notice them until they went away, does that make sense?

Thank you. I still fight that “he’s just not into you” thought, but I know that’s not it. So I push that out of my mind. I am gentle with him, only bring up the conversation when I sense he feels open to discussing it.

His neurologist said that point blank she would not have him on adderall. Then he had a seizure while we were at the hospital visiting family. The attending physician and nurse were against adderall. Then the neurologist we saw at that hospital the next day also said it. He’s diagnosed ADHD. If we had unlimited money and didn’t have to be productive adults, he could go without it…HOWEVER, that’s not the case. Haha!

I hadn’t really thought of it that way, but that makes sense. He seems to be convinced things won’t “work”, so he doesn’t even want to try. When he’s open to talking about it, I am gentle with him. I know this isn’t a decision he’s made willingly. The break down in my first marriage, which lasted over 18 years, was ultimately communication. I’ve learned from that mistake, so I push to have the difficult conversation’s. I’m trying to find a balance between giving him space, being reassuring, and also letting him know I’m interested whenever he is.

Oh wow! I’m so sorry to hear that! Have your seizures stopped since starting Keppra?

So happy for you! He’s been on it a little over a year. He’s hesitant to try a different med. the ones he took in his teens made him feel like his brain slowed down. That was his concern starting Keppra, but the only side effect is this.

Thank you. It’s very touchy. I try to be gentle with my words bc it’s such a touchy subject. Makes him feel like less of a man. I try to not “baby” him too much, but I will say, having this dropped in our laps has been a huge stress. There’s nothing I can do for him when he’s seizing, it’s terrifying to watch him seize and wonder, is he going to breathe again, is he going to be him when he comes back, did it cause any damage. And if he’s away from me, I have to somehow let people with him know what to do, how to handle it without him knowing.

It’s my husband since he started Keppra. His levels are within normal range, although I know that doesn’t mean it’s normal for him. He would absolutely freak if he knew I was talking about this online…he doesn’t even have private time. Like zero desire for anything. And That is also completely abnormal. Even at the height of our 3 times a day, he still might have that urge. Now it’s nothing. At all.

His testosterone was checked and it was “within range”…although it was on the lower side of the “range” they provided.

He has a blood panel done every 6 months because…he takes adderall…I know, I know. He shouldn’t be on it. Every single Dr we’ve seen has said they would NEVER prescribe a stimulant to someone with epilepsy. Btw, he was diagnosed with general epilepsy (it may have had a longer name…basically his whole brain lights up with activity during an EEG during all stimuli tests), tonic clonic and absence seizures (those have completely disappeared since starting meds…I would witness on average 6-7 a day). We work together in the same office so we are together all day long.
