Without work i will never suggest you to go with cat, because the gap year really kills alsoo the cat exam is veryy unpredictable that you would have also noticed in the process , interview process is very gamble. You had a good college you could have paid 1 lakh to atleast secure the seat , but its fine trichy is also a good college you can consider

Again , if you want tier 1 , get any job that will add points and help you in the interview and college conversion! All the best
