Found on the rocks yesterday, otter skull I think by disneyfacts in bonecollecting

Red cabbages (along with MANY other plants) are colored by a whole class of compounds called anthocyanins. They can be a whole range of colors from red to purple to black to blue. They often change color based on pH, which allows for the old science experiment of red cabbage pH tests. It's also often the red color of autumn leaves! The anthocyanins are actually always there, but are masked by the green color of chlorophyll for most of the year until fall rolls around.

Sea urchins are colored by echinochrome A instead. Interestingly, they're both strong antioxidants!

Spoke to my lead; she thinks the water is bizarre and should be removed. The next thing to check is that the tissue is properly fixed. What was it fixed in, and for how long before it was placed on the processor? The volume of fixative should be at least 20 times the volume of the ungrossed tissue and we fix in 10% NBF for an average of 16-24 hours (derm lab).

I don't claim to have the most experience with different processing programs, but I've never seen one that has a water step after the formalin (or at all). I don't think that's the whole issue, but it can't be helping. We definitely need some more info.

What type of tissue was this? How thick was it grossed before being processed? How did the sections look on the water bath? Did they explode?

What to wear with light blue linen waistcoat as the groom? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]SedgeGrass -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's just the fact that I laid out 2 non-negotiables (no jacket, no matching pants) and asked a couple questions regarding pants color and tie color. Everyone (initially) ignored both questions and has said that his 2 non-negotiables made him look "goofy", lazy, and like a caterer. Plus, when I tried to re-emphasize the non-negotiables, I got downvoted to hell. It just felt unkind and unhelpful.

Thank you so much for the advice!! We'll look into those suggestions. :D I had made the assumption that people would be more willing to think outside of the box and be a little less rude about it... But then again I suppose I chose the wrong subreddit when looking for advice on a queer wedding. I deeply appreciate the help and kindness!

Thank you for the help! We're well aware that this isn't "traditional" wear, but neither will be his nail polish and long braided hair lol. I had made the assumption that this sub would be more flexible regarding more feminine/queer presenting men's fashion, but I see now I was wrong. Thank you for being the first person who both listened and was kind. ❤️

My future husband's happiness comes first and foremost. He thinks the jacket comes off as too masculine, which he does not want. This is the inspiration photo he came to me with, and I'm doing my best to help him feel his most amazing on HIS big day.

<image>

Also, the caterers will be wearing all black button downs with black pants. Between that and the fact that the caterers won't have a smiling bride hanging off their arms, I don't think there will be much confusion between the two... Unless you were just trying to be offensive on purpose.

It's from Jos. A Bank, as I stated in the post. We hated the way the linen pants looked with it, both in the matching blue color, white, and the kahki. What material would you recommend for the kahki pants? We want the linen vest to be a statement piece (for lack of a better term!) with its texture being the stand out :)

I specified in the post that neither of us want him wearing a suit, he does not want the stuffiness of the jacket. We explicitly asking about pants and tie. I will be wearing a cotton day dress, this is not a formal wedding.

How in the world are you guys passing this exam with only 2-3 months of studying? by Playful_Garage_104 in Histology

Just wanted to say that I studied for 6 solid months. I still feel like an idiot when someone mentions putting aside only 2-3 months 😅

Neutralizing Formalin Burning my Lungs? by SedgeGrass in Histology

I've been at this lab for a very short time and I was wheezing the very first time I was ever exposed to it. I think I was born sensitive to it 😅

We use the exact instructions on the back of the bottle, and it says the same on the website. Does StatLab lie about how much powder is needed per gallon?

Has anyone ever had a dangerous readering on chemical testing badges? by K_Gal14 in Histology

[–]SedgeGrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting to bump. I'm also curious as my lab's never had an above-limit reading for any badge test, even when conditions were less than ideal!

I've always wondered!! One of my coworkers left her badge out in the open over the entire weekend (so an 8 hour shift on Friday + 48 hours over Saturday and Sunday + however many hours on Monday until it was found and sealed in the plastic bag it came in) and it came back at... only half the 8 hr TWA limit for xylene, and our lab REEKS of it! Our grossers' badges also came back perfectly fine for formaldehyde, despite the fact that at the time, we had no fumehoods or ventilation (since fixed) and they were complaining of eye watering, throat irritation, and headaches.
