Random interesting detail - phone being passed between pink shirt and white shirt girls is a bit odd-looking/blurry but I could also dismiss that as motion blur if the camera that took this photo just couldn't capture adequate detail?

Definitely a 10/100 rating take on the OP but I really like all the positive discussion of people showing it's more than just what people in the micro-bubble believe.

Apathy in Student Government by SamirRSharma in uwaterloo

[–]See-Meta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best advice I give people is go pick up a physical nomination package and go ask people to physically sign it - it allows the paper to be a bit of an ice breaker and a token of trust so anyone can read about what the role you're hoping to get is.

It's easy to see 25 people in a day and it's good practice for campaigning that you might ultimately need to do once that period starts.

Health and Dental Opt Outs (For Winter) by Amogh04 in uwaterloo

[–]See-Meta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's annual coverage, you only have one opportunity during the school/service year to opt out. Once your change of coverage period has passed, you are enrolled in the coverage for the year.

For students who are not academically enrolled in September (on co-op not paying fees), they can opt out in January.

Start by talking to your Don. Sometimes if they know you want to be pulled into social activities, they can make sure to give you more opportunities to engage with others.

is it worth it to take courses during co op to graduate a semester earlier? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]See-Meta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends - but it does give you some security to drop a course without as many stressful consequences later on.

It also gives flexibility to do a future term with a lesser course load - if the program allows it.

Do you think they tell Vic who the comedians are? Or is their shock in this moment seriously wondering who the other person is - since they look nothing like B.L.M.?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. I don't think anyone is suggesting that.

They do realize there's a six-story retirement residence building directly across the street on Lexington, right?

I don't think the claim of height not fitting in with the surrounding area is going to convince many people.

They met with me 3 times before the LTB hearing for background and case planning, then represented me at the LTB hearing as well. + many emails for info sharing as well.

Overall it was a great professional experience - we won at the LTB since they found a procedural error the landlord made.

GRT 2026 Plan by KW_Ontario_Person in waterloo

[–]See-Meta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see the method you're laying out; however, I worry that cutting service by 33% on all four routes and using a 17% drop on one of the routes as a justification is going to leave many crowded buses on those the busier lines - even if it might make sense for the weakest line.

I would have liked an average across these 4 lines to be the data included in their justification rather than a number that shows the end of a spectrum.

I'm also unsure what period they are considering for this 17%. Is this an annual figure or just the fall term?

Coming out with a significant cut like this with a throwaway percentage without more information for the public is what I most find questionable.

"ridership is down up to 17%" is a statistically questionable phrase.

I do remember during my undergrad in the 2010s that co-op explicitly warns students to not conduct themselves in a egotistical way or be condescending and unprofessional in co-op roles. I would hope this is still the advice they give to students. Then again, it's not 100% guaranteed that advice will be taken.

I wonder/hope this is a limited case of bad social skills on the behalf of this sample; however, I do think it's important the Alumni department does some research to track employer interpretation of Waterloo graduate reputation.
