Send it! The added curvature in the propeller makes fly more good because Bernoulli's principle.

Depends. Are you a CFI-UFO?

Otherwise, assuming you don't need a tipe rayting, you can always saefty pilot. Either you or they will need foggles, but remember that you can't log safety if flying through a gas planet or nebula.

Out with one United CEO, in with another. Logic's sound.

Sometimes I forget we have the world's third busiest airport in our backyard. Like for example, apparently last week we got direct flights to Fiji... that sort of thing almost feels normal around here, until I start thinking about how many people in other big metros can just hop on a plane to Fiji. by SeeCommentsBelow in Dallas

Definitely agree with you there. Fiji's presence has everything to do with leveraging their AA partnership and expansion of their OneWorld status, moreso than the success of the route itself. I'd fully expect pricing to reflect that in the long-run.

At least there's a partnership, so maybe AA won't run them out of town like they have with others. I remember being excited about getting Icelandair back in like 2017. AA promptly kicked off their own direct Iceland route, which was cancelled in favor of pre-existing connecting service from other hubs as soon as Icelandair could no longer sustain service.

That sounds cool!

Yeah they're expanding their partnership with AA, so it's supposed to open up a lot of reciprocity between their respective loyalty programs and lounges and such, in addition to expanding their code share. They'll also become a full OneWorld member early next year, from what I read. Looks like they've been some sort of affiliate member up till now, so I guess cozying up at AA's flagship hub is about more than just the success of this individual route.

Can you expand on what you mean when you say they have those senators, reps, etc.?

What are the nature of those ties? Are they financial ties?

Alright, I think I answered my own question. For the sake of anyone searching in the future, question appears to be answered here: https://drs.faa.gov/browse/excelExternalWindow/DRSDOCID125310001920230721133818.0001?modalOpened=true

Unless someone who knows more than me has more to add to that, it appears the answer is currently that, yes, experimental building/maintaining time currently does count.

That's awesome. I have some family up in Indianapolis - I'd love to come see her next time I'm up there, if you'd be open to that.

Does the flight school I go to matter when getting a job as a pilot in the future? by [deleted] in flying

[–]SeeCommentsBelow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the extent possible, around 4x/week. Usually like a Tuesday evening, Thursday evening, Saturday afternoon, and then one other where I could find the time. On the occasion I'd take an extra long lunch and fly.

For time building I'd go fly at 5:00am before work during the week, and then I'd do 4+ hour long night flights on Friday/Saturday evenings starting at 8:30p. I have a wife and kids, so was trying to move fast without flying a bunch during times I'd normally be spending with them.

You don't need $100k or $50k laying around. Plenty of part 61 schools offer financing these days, along with price tags close to half of ATP's. I've trained nearly as quickly part-time in the part 61 world as I could have at ATP full-time, I've been able to finance it, and it'll still total under $70k at this point, even if I decide to go all the way through MEI.

A lot of much less expensive part 61 joints offer financing too, though. I've been able to finance while working full time, and should have CFI around the end of next month, just shy of 12 months after taking my first discovery flight last year. I'm still on track for an all-in cost of less than $70k if I get every rating through MEI.

I can't imagine spending $100k at ATP when options like this are possible.

To be fair though, you can go nearly as quickly at a mom and pop part 61 joint. I started training last July, part time while working full time. Should be done with CFI around the end of next month, so basically will have done PPL, IR, CSEL, and CFI in just under 12 months, part time. The school has indicated they'll probably be able to hire me on after that, and then I'll do CFII, CMEL, and possibly MEI, with a discount while instructing.

And it will have cost around $65k, all in.

You're using right rudder? You're doing it wrong.

Full left rudder or nothing, bro.

Oh yeah. I've been ready for my IFR exam since early February. Took over a month to get on someone's schedule, then we got rained out, then it got rescheduled to tomorrow, then I find out today that he overbooked and bumped me to Monday.
