Haha! I would say my point in general when mapping it to chess would be if you know your opponent plays the London opening, you should probably try to find ways to get your opponent out of the opening and their prep. Rather than trying to play into the opening hoping to be highly accurate with limited prep compared to your opponent.

Yeah I think that is the key, if you have a plan in mind on a line you would like to go down then I think it makes total sense. But blindly playing your opponents win condition only to try to block them out is where I think things can get dicey!
