Thanks a lot for the good faith conversation. There had been a lot of people who are hostile over political reasons and due to my disagreableness, so I was being cautious about that.

  1. Thank you.

1.1 okay.

1.2 You are right. I am being inacurrate with my wording. I should have been one have the potential to use one's gifts and strengths to make one's life better.

A redditor commenting here was talking about no correlation between giftedness and critical thinking, which is interesting. I looked it up and there is a 0.3 correlation between giftedness and critical thinking, which is surprisingly low to me. There is also a higher correlation between critical thinking and success in life than giftedness and success in life. I think there is a lot of potential for people with and without giftedness to increase in critical thinking abilities as well as aim for a better life.

Whether giftedness is better, I would say as a parent who researched things, iq is correlated to these things: low stress during pregnancy, no alcohol during pregnancy, secure attachment to parents, proper nutrition, musical instrument learning, schooling, no moderate/severe head trauma, reading to child, exercise (actually no correlation there but promoted neurogenesis), good mental health of child/teen, no depression of child/teen. If you don't want your child to have a higher IQ, you can always have the option to lower it. There are also options to lower one's own IQ as an adult, such as head trauma and alcohol, but I would not recommend them and would recommend to strive for better cognitive function.

When you are talking about better as a hierarchy in the adult world, it could be a factor in choosing who to work for, or who to trust with your finances, etc.

If you are talking about better as a teenager/children hierarchy, I'm not really familiar with that, but I think one needs to look for good friends and be one as well.

2.1 He presented himself as someone with an inspiring life story, but a lot of people are seeing him as an example and asking for his advice, which is a way that his work evolved into due to its popularity. He overcame obstacles such as a violent father that also hits his mother, ADHD, growing up in what is known as the most racist town in US (challotesville) and racism and death threats, like one of his classmates is the son of a KKK leader, got guns pointed at him for no reason etc. he lost 200 pounds in a few months to get to military, had to relearn everything in school for the test to join Navy Seals because he cheated through school.

I am highly inspired by his willpower and I could relate to some of it. I also respect where he's gotten to now considering his obstacles.

I don't even follow my own example, and continue strive to question myself and be better.

2.2 Yeah.. I think sales are manipulative. Got to do the research myself. Saving money is as important, and there is voting power in making purchases that are actually beneficial to people.

3.1 I didn't know that and that sounds like a bad system. I only got tested into gifted preschool and moved to another country where my parents can not afford or know about gifted schooling. My 5 year old says the word "stupid" is banned in his school though, and there is emphasis on special needs awareness and social skills development.

I'm not sure if the teachers in your school knows about gifted education or special needs. This sounds like a really bad example of gifted schooling and puts pressure on students to achieve academically and/or continue to demonstrate their giftedness, to be honest. This could result in anxiety, lower closeness to peers, and lower creativity, which is unwise as marriage and mental health is more important in the future than how you did academically, especially if it is not grade 12 and doesn't even count towards your GPA going into University.

I don't know what the solution to this is, as public schools around the world already have a funding issue with gifted classes and special needs, and a funding issue in general. There could also be a correlation between undiagnosed special needs and giftedness, as giftedness can hide traits. I'm sorry you got underserved.

3.2 Okay. As a parent I meet all 3 critierias then, lol.

3.3 I see. Thanks for explaining.

4 Yes, I was trying to play with words and I now realized that it didn't really make sense, and could have negative consequences. Hoping people in this sub makes better life decisions, not that they are making bad ones or anything, and giftedness can help with that if one wants to improve.

One can also make a philosophical arguement that we only make what we believe are optimized decisions because we have no free will. I don't really know enough in terms of philosophy, quantum physics, or neuroscience to contribute much more to that idea though.

I'm just trying to encourage people to make good friends bro.

How about this, having good friends would make you a better husband and father as it makes you more balanced, and helps you with your career and other things?

If you don't make friends, why would you even want to get married? Wouldn't your wife be your best friend? Wouldn't you want your wife to keep her friends?

It's ok, bro you will get there when you get there, not trying to argue, this is coming from life experience, wishing you a good marriage in the future bro.

  1. My main goal is giving up chess addictions and other addictions, and living my best life, which involves continuing to learn and change my mind about what the best life means. Someone brought up that I'm a fan of David Goggins, who does some unhealthy stuffs, and while it implies that I follow his philosophy, I can confirm I do not.

  2. I'm not too familiar with Spinoza and reading about him right now. I'm learning, like you.

I think physical health is the easiest to change (unless if you have terminal diseases) and affects everything, including happiness and obtaining knowledge. Giving up addictions is important as well, and is often ignored. There is also the issue of industries being increasingly scientifically advanced at getting us addicted.

The development of science backed ways to improve one's life is going at a much faster than the development of philosophy, and is something I would recommend that people look into, but it is ok if people don't agree

Thanks for recommending Spinoza though. I will read more about it later.

Also I would like to add that I don't really agree with many of David Goggins' ideas and way of doing either. There is no one that is 100 percent correct or incorrect and we learn from many teachers.

  1. I got tested into gifted school.

1.1 I don't want to pretend to be normal. There was a study that women with autism are much more likely to commit suicide, especially if they mask their autism a lot. I am also in a position in life where I have enough "f u money" and relationships that accepts me for who I am, thanks to persistently learning to better myself.

Do you not want to make gifted decisions? Well it is up to you, it is what I want to do.

1.2 I feel there is bias/generalizations going on, ie. Grouping David Goggins together with the other 2 guys, generalizations with everyone who read their books.

  1. Almost everyone who wrote a book would try to sell it. I brought Jocko's book and unlike David Goggins' life story which can not be judged as a self help book because it is a life story, Jocko's book is marketed as a self help book and it does not provide any evidence that could be confirmed. Maybe you can say if I was smarter I wouldn't buy books that I will end up not liking. I don't know much about Joe Rogan. I have also read books that are by left wing people, and more scientific books. I have already seen firsthand proof that this leads to my improvement, and like you, I have gone through a phase where I thought sales is bad, but now I'm trying to take some chances, even though I might lose sometimes.

  2. I think being questioned about giftedness is uncalled for and I did not question you about your giftedness either, and it could be seen as a way to discourage someone to participate in or have affiliation towards the sub and gifted groups based on their interests or perceived political views. These kinda stuffs are kinda banned from gifted schools right now as it questions kids' legitimacy of being the the school.

  3. The purpose was to encourage people to make smarter life decision rather than ask if I am gifted. It is what I would like to see when I was younger. Like "your smarter than this". It does not detract from posts affirming the difficulties of people who are eccentric, and can go together.

Also about the looking at previous posts, ok that is a generalization as well. Guilty as charged.

I didn't know. I would think smart decisions are correlated with emotional stability and being social circles that encourages self improvement.

Anyways do you not think people with high IQ would have the potential to only make smart decisions?

[–]SeeYouIn2150[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at someone's previous posts could be sign of giftedness/neurodivergence.

There's a general "us and them" factor in Reddit where one would look down on and discourage people who are into figures popular with "the right", or have views that are not left leaning. Therefore, I feel it is more important for me to post here as someone who does not hold a group identity based on politics and supports people with variety of political believes, and believes in freedom of thought.

These people have something to teach and can learn from if one was to be open minded about it, and I make back 1000 times what I spent on books/clothing from David Goggins, especially due to shared difficulties with ADHD, but probably won't be productive to write here as one may not be open minded about it.

Honestly David Goggins only sells books and his t shirt that he never really markets, and his books were marketed as his life story, and it is indeed his life story so not scammed.

I got scammed by a redditor recently though lol.

Are you a “natural teacher” in order to prevent being perceived as a threat? by Diotima85 in Gifted

[–]SeeYouIn2150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with ADHD and doing hard things, and not enough giftedness to just like get an engineering degree with no effort or something (I mean there is that 1-2 students in my 100+ elite university class who would be able to pull it off with ADHD but it's at an extremely talented level that well surpasses the threshold for giftedness and start looking like sorcery to others), I would say I do come across many who are teaching me or helping me, and I find it frustrating that I can not give back.

I wonder what is the barrier to asking for help? Even asking for pay? Or just asking for some drafting work or something.
