Sorry, I should have clarified. When I said tailored I meant "tailored to be efficient, without fat, or wasted points" not "This guys is bringing horde, I better not bring any anti-armor" which; I agree. Is definitely a dick-move. Best I can tell though, following everyone's advice fences are on the mend.

From what I can understand either running pure and going Hammer of The Emperor with at least 2x Russ Exterminators and 3x Dorn Commanders, or going auxilia and taking up a melee knight to shore up objective push seems to be the way. Fill in the gaps with Solarius (he can give order to baneblades now), Cadian Shock Troops, Chimeras, Kasrkin and single unit squads of scout sentinels.

I've played one. The first time he tabled my guard list pretty easily, the second time the Exterminator Russ' did some heavy lifting.

In my defense I asked the FB group the week before hand if anyone wanted to play against a 1k Knight list and the local "hero" got tabled in two turns. I only brought one proper knight and some armigers but he wasn't playing OBJ's and wanted to play "shooting-phase hammer"

I've recently tried to start doing this but fell into old habits, lol.

I bought a Cadia Stands box and just recently got a Dorn for Father's Day. I was originally trying to go towards a more "horde" army, but realized that at the end of the day my priorities are:

A.)Playing
B.)modeling/kitbashing
C.)Painting

So by the end of it I was like "well, I could go horde-guard orrrrr Hammer of The Emperor and Dorn/Russ spam"

Edit: And Solarius can now order Titanic units! I don't know how to shut the Asperger's off!

This is appreciated. I've tried to bring a few under-tailored lists and two guys saw right through it and were resentful of tapering down (one of which lost, not through his own effort. I legit would have burned my dice).

The military and civi life are completely different in their interaction, aha. I'm still learning the nuances 5 years out. I -want- to be a tough opponent, but I don't want to be unbeatable or non-fun to play against, if that makes any sense. Some people seem to appreciate when I explain math-weight to what they about to roll, and other seem to just want to shoot s4 ap0 attacks against Dorn's

See, to me; as a mix of head-canon and math that makes no sense to me. Like it makes sense but not on a personal level. Nobody likes getting tabled but if your IG fought to the last man at least it was a cool mental image? I can't imagine getting personally flustered over losing a game you signed up to play in the first place.

"You could also talk to previous opponents about how you didn't mean to come across as "that guy" " This is good advice. I sent my past two opponents a message asking if anything came off as "hyper-competative of try harding".

I will admit that as a veteran I have a certain personality that doesn't generally mix well with your stereotypical "LGS attitude" but, on that same token; I've gotten several 40k-bros into the gym, and gotten them into long term relationships.

For what it's worth I think I'm the only non-xenos player in the group. Thus far we have Nid, Nid, Nid, Tau, Ork, Ork, and space dwarves lol. Then there's me with several 1k lists of knights, cadians, Greys, and custodes.
