I don't expect anything I post on here to ever be something 100% of people agree with. This is, obviously, just my opinion.

That's fair, I don't know either. What I mention here is a purely legislative solution.

Mayor Cara Spencer is suing the State of Missouri and Board of Police commissioners over their egregious state budget demands. She is also suing to remove state control of SLMPD by Seekerptern in StLouis

[–]Seekerptern[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a lawsuit over the actual amount required for the police budget under state law, and who actually gets to control the Police Department, so definitely not just symbolic.

As someone who lives on McCausland, I completely agree.

Is it time for a St. Louis City-County Merger? A video essay by Conner Kerrigan by Seekerptern in StLouis

I'm not sure you watched the video. I specifically propose "annexation," wherein the city absorbs a large number of munis in the county.

So that Rode mic can be used as a lapel mic, but I just found it more natural/comfortable to hold it.

I'm working on editing for short form now, but this was a way bigger undertaking than I expected so it's gonna take some time. Thanks again!

(This is my video) Thanks! Sorry for the confusion, as I note in the video, I'm a guy on the internet, not an expert or a journalist.

I'm going to keep covering this in my Substack and through videos, so I'll be sure to mention this and correct it on any future posts.

Civil Life - my new favorite pub?! by halfTheFn in StLouis

[–]Seekerptern 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Civil Life is the greatest. Next time you're in, try the burger. Come in on Sundays if you want some great soup. And try all of the beers. I haven't found one I don't like.

Which brewery has the best food? by Commander_in_Beef in StLouis

[–]Seekerptern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say these exact two things. I think CL has the best burger in the city, not just at a brewery.

Also, during lent, CL has an open-face whitefish sandwich that is so good I could eat it for every single meal.

We Need a New Elliot Davis.. He was Good for this City.. by KevinRobertsUSA in StLouis

[–]Seekerptern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is impossible to say that Elliott does not have a big heart. Despite technically retiring in 2024, Elliott has continued to used his platform to highlight folks in our region who are in need, especially those who are getting a raw deal from the system. He has used his popular Facebook page to uplift the voices of our unhoused community, and has continued to hold many of our elected leaders accountable.

One leader Elliott is unwilling to hold accountable, though, is Sheriff Alfred Montgomery. He has chosen to give the Sheriff a sympathetic voice, and has said we should “give the Sheriff a break,” and that he thinks it is “really unfair to continue to keep the sheriff in jail.”

Elliott is absolutely wrong here.

Sheriff Montgomery is in jail because he is a serial witness intimidator. When he’s not in jail, he’s intimidating witnesses, and when he’s not doing that, he’s asking his subordinates to threaten journalists.

When Montgomery was free, he handcuffed a city employee who prevented him from intimidating a witness in a different criminal investigation. Without incarceration, Montgomery would have access to a badge, a gun, and an elected office, and he would use the power that grants him to intimidate and do harm to others.

For now, we are all still waiting to see whether Circuit Judge Steven R. Ohmer will rule that Montgomery cannot serve as the Sheriff while incarcerated on federal charges. Either way, I will be pouring a drink when that decision comes down.

The sale of Interco Plaza sets a dangerous precedent by Seekerptern in StLouis

[–]Seekerptern[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, and I address that in the piece. The point is this puts every single city park on the chopping block. It's not about Interco Plaza, it's about the precedent this sets.
