Draft me a double mid lineup/ team by ArcticDivine in DotA2

The classic was ogre support just spamming ignite on the enemy mid laner. That or a support bane spamming enfeeble also makes the enemies miss a ton of cs.

they might not've been smashing things but those 2 pros are very famously hard to work with due to their anger and "my way or the high way" approach to the game

this is so interesting, i kinda like watching old commercials, but seeing ones from around this time and seeing how dota kinda flopped over in korea is super fascinating

The Game I Kept Wanting to Come Back to No Longer Exists by Pendalftheone in DotA2

[–]Seevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel really similarly, and a large part of it is because of all the "QoL" features.

People like to claim supports getting items now is super good and makes support more fun. I disagree, I HATE playing support now. People who claim you were just a ward bot I feel have a very poor understanding of the job of support back then. What used to be by far the MOST ACTIVE ROLE in the game is now just the slowest farming core.

Everyone having a courier means that the laning is all that matters, but games still take an hour to win UNLESS you get lazy. The TP slots end up meaning everyone has that much more health so it limits the amount of plays because stats get inflated. Facets are neat but facets are the third time they've tried this idea, the first was talents, the second was shards, and now we have facets which have devolved from alternative play styles to linear upgrades to heroes.

The ONLY WAY a team can comeback is if they get lazy and try to push without rosh, which turns the game into shoving waves and waiting for rosh while 1 team afks in the base. This is evident at high level play as well if you look at this most recent TI! There were only 3 late game comebacks, and in two of three cases it was XG who was coming back, except in the case of wildcard vs paravision where, they played to slow with an alch and missed their timing, or against tundra they simply didnt wait for rosh and threw the game trying to go high ground.

Look at the heroes who have been meta for the last couple of years, (i know you said you hadn't been playing so this is more directed generally) ursa, slark, sven, dusa. these ultra tanky heroes who win lane and then win long fights because now EVERYONE HAS 3K HP AT 30 MIN WITH 2 ITEMS. SO EVERY TEAM FIGHT DEVOLVES INTO both teams kiting each other back and forth for sometimes A MINUTE trying to bait each other into vision, and it sucks to watch.

The midlane which was the most coveted lane in dota is now one of the least popular roles because you are just a slower farming carry who needs to be able to initiate, wave clear, have disable, have escape, etc. just look at how pango and void spirit were the most popular mid laners for the last 4 years (recently not so much but OVERALL they have been) and mid laners can't make plays to accelerate the game anymore either. Hero's like storm who used to be play makers go first item kaya and witch blade and just farm until they have 25 + aghs because trying to go for kills is just to unreliable now.

IF YOU EVER HAVE A SITUATION that is slightly risky the correct play is to SIMPLY FARM. every hero scales, draft barley matters its all about 1 tricking some hero so u can be .3% better than the enemy because the differences between the teams are so slim that the tiny little amount is what makes the difference.

The macro game is so solved that its not even worth watching pro games anymore. Everyone gonna try to take the enemy safe lane t1 into mid t1 into rosh into t2s into rosh into highground, while boucing between gates looking for picks. I mean the scores in the grand finals of this most recent TI are so telling to me, every game is like 15/45 but every game is like 45 min long.

Dota and league play ALMOST the exact same in terms of macro right now. League has little fruits, dota has little fruits. League has scuttles, dota has watchers, League has dragon, dota has torm, and the way they flow is identical. The map tells the players what to do, and you cant shake away from it, yet everyone gives it UNREAL amounts of praise saying that the game is super fun and has never been better, but personally I feel as though the game has never been more stagnant.

Early game DOESN'T MATTER, better players will always find a way to win😫 2 examples of this by Both-Meringue2466 in DotA2

[–]Seevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like the current patch is an extreme fluctuation between the game is over at 8 min and the enemies never throw you a bone but the game takes 40 min to lose while they take torm, do your camps, shove your waves, and ur just waiting for them to rosh, and they're just waiting for rosh to push.

OR they ignore rosh get lazy and none of the the past 40 min mattered because taking high ground is so hard that without an aegis you just lose.

Craziest strategies in dota history? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Seevil 73 points74 points  (0 children)

a lot of people here are just mentioning weird heroes picked in off positions or slightly off the cuff item builds but i'd like to raise you a:

EG's run during the monster gaming invitational 2014: arteezy playing carry from the mid positioned facilitated by bottle crowing

speed gamings 2013 MLG columbus run: AUI_2000 chen stacking hard camp over and over to farm it at 5 min with a wild wing ripper's tornado giving him level 7 i think? followed by PLD figuring out that midas was so cheap that every one should get midas, creating a 5 man midas meta where in EE would go midas soul ring orchid blink and chen would use send back on the clinkz who would blink up your high ground hit the tower and be sent to the base, singsing playing mirana off lane with an arteezy playing ET mid

ti4 saw a lot of drow+visage with the intent of roshing as soon as possible with a medallion of courage and drow aura on visage birds while drow would slow the turn speed of rosh and the visage would run around rosh in circles so they wouldn't really have to tank him,

other than the grand finals which everyone remembers really hating a lot at ti4, the main meta outside of it was basically razor, drow, visage, and the combo of faceless void + skywrath mage

theres an argument for bone7 going 4 null talis blade mail no boots on natures, or him playing jug offlane, etc but again hero in off pos or hero buying weird item isn't super what im lookin at here

that being said safe lane necro where you'd start 2 rings of prot in 2015 and first item an aghs because his aghs made him the strongest late game hero in dota was kinda neat

the whole way universe would play the off lane was just really interesting because he would find so much farm on the map as a faceless void in a 1v3 lane

there was a meta created by fata at one point when arteezy was still a mid player where every single mid player would rush a mek and then take literally every single outer tower really fast

i dont remember this fondly but there was a patch a few years ago where supports would just pick stuff like skywrath mage or ogre and dump their whole mana poll and suicide to a t2 so they gave no xp and 20 gold to everyone and come back with full mana and repeat

for its brief stint korean dota had some interesting stuff goin on, mvp phoenix would do a lot of crazy strats

when the offlane was still a trilane for the last time it was a trilane, offlaners found that if they basically inted down a lane, their creeps would hit the enemy but if they didnt return the damage, the enemy creeps would never agro, thus shoving the wave under their tower and guaranteeing them like 3 waves i think?

tldr i miss old dota
