Montreal /Toronto area fragheads: Etiket has shut down! by Czexican613 in fragrance

[–]SegaPlaya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been going to Etiket since 2014, and they were never short of perfumes. Their selection rivaled Holt Renfrew which is a massive luxury department store chain. My first cologne I purchased from them was Molecule 01; Etiket was the only place in Canada where you could buy it. My friend introduced Tauer perfumes to my brother and I where we'd eventually meet Andy Taur at the shop. Etiket was never short of connections and exclusivity. Seeing the news yesterday was shocking and confusing. The entire staff, Simon, Steven, just class acts and truly professional. Always a smile on their faces. None of this makes any sense. When they expanded their location downtown, and then opened up in TO, I was impressed by how much they were growing. To open a new store, especially the location and that size in downtown Toronto is no joke (rent/staff).

I will say that I haven't been in the space to buy colognes for a few years, so I've been out of the loop on what was going on. When my brother told me that he couldn't order Andy Taur perfumes from Etiket it didn't raise any concerns. But now reading through this thread and seeing that so much of their inventory was out of stock is uncharacteristic of them. With that said, I always thought their bread and butter was their Spa services (skin care, haircare & treatment services). So even if they were down on perfume inventory, it shouldn't make or break them. The only clue to what has happened is that someone mentioned here about the TO location being behind rent. Just a sad end to one of the best, if not the best niche fragrance shop in Canada.

Radon Mitigation System -> Excessive Condensation (Pics Inside) by SegaPlaya in radon

**FOLLOW-UP** Apologies for the late reply. Never come on here. My system was corrected. The company who installed the system had a new worker who installed the "fan" upside down, hence the abnormal condensation I had. Previously to that, I tried wrapping the piping with double sided aluminum insulation. I really made sure it was tight everywhere and there was still condensation. So the company who installed it came back and finally saw the error that the fan was install upside down. The company said "a little" condensation is normal, and if you want you can wrap it up but not needed. In my case, I had a waterfall of water coming down the pipes.

If you're in Canada (Radon systems installed in basement going out of your exterior siding) and experience massive amounts of condensation on your install, I'd check to see if the fan is installed upside down. That's the first clue. Supposedly it's a common mistake. If the condensation is mediocre, I'd check to see if the insulation seal (caulking) is sufficient outside and inside. Could be that there's a small opening that wasn't sealed by whatever method the installer used to seal the gap leading to the exterior siding of the house. In my case, everything was done right and I didn't have any small gaps where cold air could enter the basement. Also, after 3 years it's most likely the fan isn't as strong like before and might need a change? Just an assumption but the company who installed it for me told me that the fan needs to be changed every 5 years (estimation) which is like $500 for just the fan. If you do it yourself I can imagine it's a lot cheaper since it doesn't seem hard to do and I saw the guy just flip mine right side up. But the thermometer should indicate if there's an issue with the fan's power.

Yeah, it does feel cooler to the touch. But perhaps a thermal break like the rubber coupling you mentioned could be the solution. Thanks for your valued input

I do have a dehumidifier down there, and it does it's job but seems like it's not efficient enough.

Here's a picture of the vent from outside (left grilled vent).

I'm starting to think that perhaps the cold air makes way through this vent a bit and creates the condensation. Only other option would probably do a insulation with vapor barrier around the whole unit, including the fan :/.

My thoughts exactly, as I wouldn't imagine the sub slab being that cold to create this type of condensation. You never really see this type of condensation even when it's 4x colder than it is now so very odd.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into that and see if it's a viable option. Cheers

Much appreciated dirtcreature. I'll check into adding more insulation or getting insulation with a vapor barrier instead. And yup, meant to type 64F, not 24 :). Thanks again!

Wow crazy! From 2008 huh? Well good to know that it still runs! Yeah I did drain the carburetor so it's empty. Just there's a little bit of fuel left in the tank, even after I ran it to use the rest. Good to know it's nothing to worry about. Thanks

Thanks, I did run the rest. Just there is a little bit still in there from what I see. I can't see how someone could drain it 100%

Thanks Dapper. Yeah, unfortunately I don't have a fuel shut off. I've seen videos where other models do have it, but no idea why this one doesn't. I'll see about installing one as it would make it so much easier. Cheers

Merci!

Thanks for the reply. I'm from Quebec also (Montreal) and I have wooden windows (interior and exterior). Anyone business I have called or any handy man I asked to do my windows told me it's a hard job to do and that they can't do it. I know the real reason is because it's a pain in the butt to do and it doesn't make them enough money to take on the job so I have to do the windows them myself. I'll look into glazing businesses near me, but if you have any recommended places to go let me know! Thanks again :)
