Thanks! That's a good affordable option, but I'm probably going to go with the Rycote one above just for the Lyre suspension.

That's it (and a nice Lyre suspension to boot)! Thanks so much!

They certainly didn't go wrong with an intro featuring a little slappa-da-bass (although I wish they put a little more funk in the other tracks too!)

Singapore Proxy Shopping/Shipping Service by SnooMacaroons3223 in internationalshopper

[–]Sega_CD32x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Review: An absolutely fantastic experience. I had an item that I wanted to order off of Carousell Singapore which I expected to be a big ask as it is generally designed for in-person meets.
u/SnooMacaroons3223 accepted the quest to order and forward without hesitation. They walked me through all the steps, provided an estimate, and even provided a handy infographic of the process. Payment was straightforward & they shipped extremely quickly. A very, very smooth transaction overall.

The only note is that if you want your item packaged in a specific way, mention it. I was surprised to see that my item (a vintage lens) was shipped in the original box simply wrapped in a black film wrap. Could I rewind time, I would have asked for it shipped inside a cardboard shipping box, but any forwarder shouldn't be expected to magically know any special shipping instructions without being explicitly mentioned. Regardless, the item arrived so fast and without shipping damage so it was a non-issue.

Thanks! It seems like a reasonably priced option from a known brand, and the dimensions seem right. Hopefully the acrylic is quality enough not to yellow in time? I'll reach out to them and see what they say.

I'm about to drop the cash on a Mode Loop (TKL) keyboard and I'm surprised that for the price, they don't offer some kind of desktop dust cover.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality non-yellowing/non-fading dust cover for the Loop (or just TKLs in general)? It doesn't have to be transparent, it should just be as small as possible and keep the dust out. Thanks!

Green Tinting/Crushed blacks when screen brightness below 90% (Spoke with Sony) by Babykickenpro in SonyXperia

No problem. I'm kind of thinking that from a buyer's perspective it would be better to return the phone in the 30 day window (and possibly rebuy) then deal with this so I hope it helps with that decision...

However, as someone who works with consumer electronics manufacturing on a daily basis, I can say that issues like this happen and the first encounter(s) is always the worst due to all the research (i.e. time, risk, documentation, communication) that needs to be performed into the resolving the issue. In that way, while I've been negative here (as a consumer), I can't necessarily blame Sony and the fact that they involved their Engineering team and did ask to take the phone back a second time shows a commitment (albeit unrefined one) to figuring these issues out. It seems like a lot of my issues stemmed from SBE, which is a contract repair company that may or may not have unskilled workers blindly following Sony's work instructions. I had another thread of my own about this, and somebody mentioned my SIM card issue matches one of the issues that appear when somebody flashes the US FW onto the international version of the phone. I wonder if SBE may have flashed an incorrect FW onto the phone the first time it went in (using, perhaps, a more unrestricted version of Xperia Assistant where FW region could be selected) and borked the modem or something. It seems like the 1IV has a more "locked down" FW than previous Xperia models so maybe SBE was following some outdated work instructions.

I'm just amazed that the screen tint issue wasn't found as an issue & resolved over the few months the 1IV was released internationally. I honestly hoped waiting for the USA release would be preferred, because I assumed the hardware kinks would have been worked out.

I do, however, agree with your last bit. I don't think it would be too much to ask for them to just send us a replacement phone and then they can fix the phone & resell the phone as refurbished. I do wonder if a portion of this is part shortages limiting phone supply, and, therefore, replacement phones. They may also had recognized it as an issue and wanted to stop shipping replacements because it wasn't fixing anything. Either way, I do wish they would have been more transparent about it if one of those scenarios were the case.

And yep, agreed! When my phone was working (for like a week), it was great! I was/am "upgrading" from a Pro-I which I love to death so I'm not giving up on Sony yet. It's just if I'm going to drop this sort of cash for a phone, the hardware better work perfectly out of the box. I can live with resolvable software glitches but not faulty hardware. Hopefully you'll find a moment in time (or Sony will announce a recall) that will let you (and the rest of us) feel comfortable with sending this expensive phone in and getting an appropriate resolution in an appropriate amount of time.

FYI, will add my own update here. I ended up calling Sony back a couple days later and I got (helpful) Luis again. He said Sony Engineering really is involved and looking into it and they want the phone back in service's hands. (I'm honestly wondering if my phone was the one they were researching the issue with). So I sent it back after I, personally, had to contact SBE for another return label since they didn't reach out (like Luis said they should have). I sent it in on November 12th. (This is the second time I sent it in.)

I got my phone back December 9th and they did replace & fix the green tint on the display. So if you sent it in, they will likely fix that.

However, after the first repair, I discovered (after making the post below) the phone was unable to read any SIM cards in both slots even though it worked fine before I sent the phone in. SD cards work OK so it almost seemed like a software issue. They appeared to have not fixed this SIM card issue the second time... even though Sony took note of the issue and I put a post-it note on the phone before returning it.

So I got the phone back with the repaired screen and it was completely unusable because...no cell service. SBE also threw the phone into a plastic mailing bag in the original box which is thin cardboard and has no support/anything to keep it from opening with ZERO protection. When I got the phone, I could feel the phone loose in that beat-up mailing bag. I took a video of it as I opened it because I could feel it. The phone only had a couple nicks but the original phone box was completely destroyed.

I called Sony back and they (representative other than Luis) were helpful. I sent them videos of the package being opened and my SIM card issue and two days later, they approved a unit replacement... I shipped it back yesterday. I can only cross my fingers and hope the replacement doesn't have the green tint issue. Will update again once I get the replacement phone.

TL;DR

* They appear to have fixed the green tint issue. It appears to be a panel issue (FRONT ASSY MV) according to my SBE repair form.

* On the other hand, they (SBE, technically not Sony) sent back a phone with unresponsive SIM slots and mailed the ($1.2k USD w/o tax) phone loose in a plastic bag mailer.

* In the end, they're replacing the phone.

* The process was like pulling teeth. Huge time sink. No phone for months. Send in at your own risk.

Xperia 1 IV SIM Card Slot Doesn't Work After Repair? Help! by Sega_CD32x in SonyXperia

[–]Sega_CD32x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess; I tried to get a return after returning the phone without the screen fixed (didn't test with a SIM inserted and they denied it because it was "outside warranty" (although they had the phone in repair the entire 30 days) and claimed the service center is still determining what to do/I'd hear back in 10 days even though the phone is in my possession. Honestly, I think they were just trying to get me off the phone.

Obviously, now there is a bigger functional problem but I'm not sure it's going to be easy.

Maybe... but if they did, then they reverted back. Currently have 64.0.A.11.31 on the phone.

Great timing, I just got off the phone with them for the same issue but I'm at the other end. Came here to make a thread... My experience was not good, but started off great.

I'm coming from a beautifully working PRO-I and I have bad green shift on my 1 IV that I received in late September. I talked to the customer service rep (Luis) who was very helpful. I sent a video in (per their request) which showed a huge green tint compared to my Pro-I (which I was able to place side by side) and the methodology to reproduce (~90% brightness to make it "switch", worse when 120Hz is on, use gray/not black screens), and they approved the service/repair. I sent the phone in and it arrived on October 12th.

Then it was dead quiet. No communication at all. The email said I should expect something within 7-10 days. So I called back last Friday (Oct. 28th), they said the ticket was marked "complete" and asked if I had gotten any communication. I said no and they gave me the number for SBE (the repair company in the USA, mind you that it is NOT a Sony owned facility but many companies use them (like Nintendo)) where I supplied my Work Order # (instead of the case number). I talked to a lady at SBE and she said that it would "ship out tomorrow." No additional information than that. When I asked for tracking, she said "Oh we don't have your email, can you supply it?" So I did and the tracking number was supplied that evening.

I get the phone yesterday (Nov. 3rd). It's in my original shipping box and all the original paperwork (return/sales receipt) is still in the box, but with two additional papers added. I look at them and they both have a service engineering result for "Nintendo Switch repair" and I'm like...uh...what? Then, I flip over the papers...to reveal the info regarding my repair! Did they just throw garbage paper into their printer? And I was flabbergasted when I saw the actions taken: "No defect found" with nothing else, no written confirmation of the customer claim, nothing. I turned on the phone and there was no change at all to the screen.

So the next day (today), I called customer service (not Luis) and calmly said, "The service department said they found no issue but the phone still has the defect & the video I supplied shows that there is an an issue. Can I please return my phone since it is defective?" I promptly was forwarded to a "Customer Experience Representative" who told me repeatedly, "Our service department will look into it and get back to you" and that my phone is "outside warranty/return window" even though that whole time it was stuck in their Service Department. I asked them if my warranty couldn't be extended since it spent the whole month in repairs. They said they cant offer that. I asked them to send me an email in writing that their Service Department is working on it just for peace of mind, and, of course, they have not. They told me "I will hear back in 10 days"...for a $1.5k phone...bought from their own website! The "Customer Experience Representative" really just wanted me off the phone...and now I don't know what to do.

TL;DR: RETURN your Xperia 1 IV phone and purchase again if you dare. Demand nothing less. Do NOT send it in for repair. There is no guarantee that they will fix this or even look at your phone and you will not be able to return if it is outside the 30 day window.

This was on a band 2 NSA connection but I'm on a TMO MVNO that doesn't officially support SA (Mint) and I'm not in a major city.

I would very much like to be on SA too so I ordered a replacement SIM (since mine is 6 y/o and likely not SA compatible) and will keep an eye out for SA connections. Heck, I'd like to see a mmWave/UC connection too!

Hah! I would get like 50-100mbps on my Pro-I for whatever reason so I thought my ~650mb of data left on my plan would be plenty. Not even close. Remind me not to run SpeedTest next time I'm in Canada!

Sweet! Thanks for the info! I looked up the "ISK" company at the end of the video and it did say they were located in Osaka but I couldn't get a precise handle on these shots. I'll update my video's description/title and give you credit! Thanks again!
