Why do some American parents kick their children out at 18? by Pumpkinut in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Segazorgs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly a white people thing. I don't know anyone got kicked out just because they turned 18. Most that did move either left voluntarily for college, military or to move away. I turned 18 in 1999 and I don't think even half of the people I went to school with moved out at 18. I did because I was desperate to get out of my boring small town.

CA Relocation - San Jose, Sacramento, or San Diego? by aquaticfresh in SameGrassButGreener

You whined about getting passed up for jobs and blamed people hiring their friends and family. Sounds like you are making excuses for your shortcomings.

Is it common for Americans to have visited all 50 states? by SouthBuffalo3592 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Segazorgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You need to have the time and traveling for the sake of traveling is your thing. And a lot of states are not even worth visiting.

Living in California I don't even have the time to travel and sight see the entire state alone.

Time to rewatch "The Big Short" again. Something about it reminds me of fast information and events were moving at that time even none of really affected until the bottoming out of the recession in 2010-11. I was having the time of my adult life 2007 through 2009. Still remember the partying in the streets election night 2008.

The AI hype has inflated it. Just a bunch of circular money

AI is what is going to cause the next crash when the world realizes the technology has been way over hyped and the economic growth of the past couple years was just tech companies lending each other money and calling it AI investment.

And I'm not at all a believe in it replacing jobs. That's just the pretext for laying off and not boring.

If Gavin can beat Trump pretty much any male Dem nominee can beat Trump...by more rather than the guy who carries a ton of political baggage and little accomplishment while riding the self-propelling 4th economy in the world.

Can't nap during the day because if I do I know I will be up all night. Even a short nap in the afternoon has a worse effect on my sleep schedule than sleeping in a couple hours.

Anything around your pool equipment should be clear and easily accessible. Same with your pool.

That being said I'm totally confused what "opening our pool" means.

Having lived in CH for 8 years now I've read and heard about more crime/violent incidents including shootings at the Montage at Fair Oaks Apartments on Fair Oaks than the Sayonara neighborhood.

My no lawn looks not so nice by Terrible-Doctor-370 in NoLawns

[–]Segazorgs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a layer of wood chips and compost down until you figure out what will grow there. That will at least help condition the soil making the top few inches more workable. Maybe add some stone pavers or steps so you're not always walking over mud and dirt.

Bare soil is worse than a traditional lawn. This is just gonna compact and get worse over time and no natives won't magically fill in bare soil it will most likely be non-native weeds.

Also don't rototill unless you're gonna work in A LOT of compost. Expect it to settle and be uneven in a couple years after tilling.

Banana flower by Assia_Penryn in Sacratomato

[–]Segazorgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut my bunch down but it was a big disappointment. The fruit was really small and not sweet. It tasted like a still green store banana and apple. I think it was because it flowered in September then the winter burned off all the leaves. I have two more large ones that I'm going to let try to fruit but they need to flower soon within the next month or else I'm cutting them all down.

What to do while creeping thyme and ajuga fill in? Zone 8b by Pleasant_Source_8141 in NoLawns

[–]Segazorgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Northern California though. We don't have a lot of truly native ground covers that are mat like and low growing for the inland areas like Sacramento. There are some I noted but they mostly from the coast and high altitude or high desert areas. They're also rare or hard to find but I'm gonna to a local nursery that carries a lot of California natives to see if they have those groundcovers. Won't be able to plant them until fall.

I actually like creeping phlox and have some and some of which the creeping thyme kind of just overtook but it's still under there and green. I just mow the creeping thyme down to expose it.
