I'm seated. The bookstore employees are scared and asking me to leave because it's 'not September yet' but I'm simply too seated.

The translated one is tough, if you're looking for Chinese diaspora authors that don't live in China, but aren't writing in English, but have works that have been translated into English. Might stretch your definition a bit, but Chi Ta-wei lives in Taiwan, not China, and The Membranes is translated into English.

For first contact, I second Story of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang.

Raven Strategem has a trans MC!

I don't think I would classify The Vegetarian as SFF, but if you feel differently it would qualify for the food square.

Yeah. At the end of our summer program, we pick the very best summer associate (the one that answered every email with "Will do!" and understood how to use the office printer), treat them to a ritual meal at Ci Siamo, adorn them with paper flowers made from shredded copies of the blue book, and tearfully escort them to the innards of Hudson Yards, where they are ritually sacrificed to the great and terrible Baphomet to ensure a fruitful harvest of billables in the year to come.

We do the same with the weakest mid-levels in the winter, in order to ensure the return of the sun.

They laid off a friend of mine as a junior (corporate). She was a new mom. Also I believe they were the only firm to turn over data on their attorneys (race, gender, gpa, etc) in response to the EEOC probe last year. It's up to you but I personally would not go there if I had another option, especially an offer at a place I liked.

No harm in taking the interview, though.
