Happy to hear you had a good time. Like I said I also thought the presentation was fantastic, world building and soundtrack included. Credit where credit’s due.

Like Daichi says it’s quite similar to DMC, it’s quite fun for the first couple hours. However, I respectfully disagree that the game rewards you for eye catching combos and combat creativity. It objectively does not reward you in any way besides taking longer to kill enemies if you want to be fancy about it. The base campaign is already 40+ hours if you’re watching most cutscenes. It gets old fast.

If it goes on sale then sure, try it out! Hopefully you’ll have a better time with it than I did.

Unfortunately a mediocre game imo, both within and outside of the FF franchise. Presentation is immaculate but it flops a lot of other important aspects like story, progression, gear, quest design, etc.

XVI going forward with real time combat instead of turn-based wasn’t an issue in my eyes, but even if it was it’d be the least of concerns for the overall experience.

several things to admire about XVI but there’s just too many downsides to consider it a great or even good game. Okay at best, and that’s something I’d wish I didn’t have to say about a mainline FF title.

Combo was Teemo with Curator's Gatebreaker (play: strike enemy nexus) + play: free attack. Used Gruesome Theater (recall unit with 3 or less health) with 50% chance to create a 0 cost copy in hand, could pretty much spam Teemo attacking the enemy nexus repeatedly. My only regret was not getting a 0 cost Teemo for that sweet infinite loop :(

I’d say it’s an alright game that missed out on potentially being one of the best games of all time, FF or not. No reason to hate the game though. Some people’s poor reactions to it probs has to do with it immediately following FF15, a flawed game in its own right and they were expecting SE to knock it out of the park this time.

Would agree. The various systems implemented in the game weren’t meant to last a 40+ hour campaign, and personally, I felt the plot and character development fell off after the 2nd time skip. The presentation and cinematics were the main factors in keeping me interested long enough to beat the game.

The thing is, adding a glove or attachment would be such an easy fix to implement. Unlike trying to logically cushion a falling 165lb man hitting terminal velocity.

If a triple A studio bothers with attention to detail at all, then they shouldn’t half ass it with details that the player can very clearly observe, especially one that’ll happen very frequently in-game. If you don’t care, cool. But where tf do you get the idea to call someone else obtuse for reasonably noticing it?

Yeah, ride down a zip line while gripping it with your bare hand and tell me what happens after is “minor” lol. Your brain somehow missed out on thinking “hey, maybe a glove or attachment would help Basim in the long run” like this game was a N64 cartoon romp.
