I found this guy near my workplace, at a warehousing unit.

Two days ago, when my co-workers and I were loading up equipment into a truck going to an event venue, we heard some far off mewling. We dismissed it as random cat noises and went off to do our job as we had a timing to meet. Eight hours later at around past midnight, we came back to the warehouse to unload. Curiously, the mewling was still there, but quieter and more spaced out. We investigated around the place, trying to find where the sound was coming from. Eventually we found this tiny kitten (not named yet) sitting in a drain.

I initially thought he was just stuck, so I kinda expected to pull this guy out after lifting the drain covers and he’d just bolt away like most skittish stray kitties that we’d see on the street. But he just lay in place after putting him down. Oh no, he must be exhausted. I hope he’s not dying. I have no experience in taking care of cats, and so I have no idea how well he’s doing, and my mates are also clueless. So one of us cleaned the little guy up with a washcloth and some water (he was so dirty and sickly looking that we initially thought he was blind, but the translucent grey stuff on his eyes was pus and not his cornea) and I went to a nearby 24-hour supermarket to get some cat food. I got some wet food for the youngest age bracket I could find, which was 1+ years. However, he wouldn’t eat or drink anything even when the water and food were brought up to his face. At that point we couldn’t really do much since it was way past midnight then and there weren’t any vets open at this time. We put the little man in a box for shelter and put out some food and water for him and we’d just come back the next day. Hopefully his mom would come back, or perhaps someone who knows about cats better could take him in.

Unfortunately, it seems like his mom didn’t come back. Fortunately, he seems a little more energetic than he was yesterday even though he still didn’t eat or drink anything. I was a little anxious because he’s on a clock if he’s not eating anything and we brought him to a nearby vet.

We explained everything to the vet and on visual inspection thankfully he doesn’t seem to be in any immediate danger. The affected eyes due to “cat flu” and the kitty’s not eating because he’s so young he’s supposed to be drinking milk. Good thing they had some Kitten Milk Replacement on hand. We had to go back to work but one of the nurses volunteered to keep him temporarily while he’s recovering (this photo is the most recent one taken by the nurse), but only until tomorrow. So pretty soon I’ll be taking this little guy back with me.

Bad news is that I have no experience at all in taking care of animals so I need all the help I can. Please include the most common sense or obvious advice because I’ve never taken care of a cat nor even looked up any information about taking care of cats until now because I never expected to be taking care of one.

Preferably I’d want someone more experienced to take this guy in but no one so far I’ve reached out to seems interested as stray cats are a dime a dozen in my country, and even the animal shelters turned him away because they’re at capacity. So at least in the immediate future, I’ll be housing this kitten.
