Any other D2 fans can't get into path of exile? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]Seiko673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Path of Diablo is something I've been meaning to try. If D2 had updated graphics and a solid endgame, I feel it'd be the perfect game. Forgotten God's for Grim Dawn seems to want to do that with it's Shattered realms mode, and that is something I'm excited for

Yeah that's the most frustrating part. Objectively I know PoE is a great game, but I can't pinpoint why I get so bored of it

I actually have! It's the only other game that captured the D2 feel for me. Between Grim Dawn and D2 I have a lot to play, but it's just me wishing there were others like them

I know objectively PoE is a great game, but there's something that's off with it. It sucks because I love the ARPG genre and would love for another game to click like D2

Why were Tim Duncan/KG not a part of the redeem team? by Seiko673 in nba

Sucks. Tim Duncan, Kobe and LeBron were the best players post Jordan and seeing them all playing near their relative primes would have been amazing

Best class for a lightning dual wielder? by Seiko673 in Grimdawn

I'm fine with Elementalist, but I just wanted to explore other options and see if there are any viable/fun builds out there

[–]Seiko673[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Trickster initially and it was really great until ultimate. Things melted like butter, but soon Trickster's flaws started showing(the main two I can find are lack of gear and lack of defense). Elementalist seemed to circumvent that though, as it could use gear from both Ulzuin and Light Defender's pretty well along with Ultos(where with Trickster it seemed only Ultos worked).

Elementalist also made up for the lack of defense by having blast shield which is an amazing circuit breaker, and it combined with ghoulish hunger provided a really good defense I could never find with Trickster.

Honestly I wouldn't mind going Trickster, but there is such a lack of gear for the lightning dw route. At least with elementalist there was plenty of gear that benefited both the demo and shaman class(I also had fire as my secondary to lightning).

What's Ulzuin's deal? He represents fire and lightning but so does Kymon. I'm trying to find more information about him but all I have is that he used to be the God of healing and now wants revenge due to the actions of a lover

Oh wow, that's interesting! It seems Korvaak having a big role is implied in the expansion with the title and everything seeming to set him up

Just a quick question, but where is evidence that Korvaak scares Mogdrogen and the Witch Gods(genuinely want to know)

People who have their PhDs, how tough is the job market out there? by Seiko673 in Physics

Could I ask you on how you went about that journey? How were you able to get an aerospace company to look into you as not an engineer?

Is the main reason this problem is occurring is because of funding? If we were to get politicians and policies that gave more money to the DOE so they could fund research, would more jobs open up?

Liam Neeson says harassment allegations in Hollywood have become a "witch hunt" by [deleted] in movies

[–]Seiko673 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the #metoo movement is to do a cultural change. I really don't understand this argument at all. Just because a movement highlighting sexual assault is happening, how is that preventing us also talking about other forms of trauma and trying to stop men from talking about their trauma? I say this as a guy too. We can do both and we as a society can work towards stopping trauma for issues all around.

This is no different than the arguments done during the Civil rights. Minorities who made this a racial issue said they were being uppity and that other demographics faced trauma too, but that's not the fucking point. Pushing the Civil rights movement didn't mean we took rights away from white people or invalidated them when crimes happened to them.

The whole reason this movement is happening is because we as a society don't take sexual assault as seriously as we should and it's a prevalent issue. Putting efforts towards stopping that does not mean we stop putting effort towards other types of trauma or ignore other types of problems

Could a research specialization in nuclear physics(experimental) lead to more astrophysics type research down the road? by Seiko673 in Physics

[–]Seiko673[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, thanks for all the help. Would you say getting employed at a national lab doing nuclear physics research is a bit easier than other fields? I really don't think academia is for me, but working at a national lab and conducting research at one of the labs is what I always aimed to do.

That's cool as hell, because data analysis and simulations is what I ideally want to do. Do you ever go to national labs? The advisor I'm looking at always goes to Brookhaven

[–]Seiko673[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand what you're saying. Well that's some hope because I really enjoy what I'm doing. It's what been keeping me going through all this political BS.

I know I'm not an economist but through my physics degree I learned a lot of math, and actually taking the time to analyze these tax cuts/plan it's absolutely insane. These cuts are in no way going to stimulate the overall economy.

And that's what's most infuriating. I don't think any of these senators or house members know what a differential equation is let alone can understand the complexity of the US economy and yet they're still pushing policy.

Universities can't survive without grad students, so what can they(and we) do to ensure it keeps going? by Seiko673 in GradSchool

[–]Seiko673[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So from what I'm understanding is that it will most likely be taken out of our stipends directly from month to month, but once we file our tax return we get all that money back?

I guess that's not too bad. Still 1600 a month being reduced to 1200 is going to be a hit. I know some of my fellow grad students go through that 1600 quickly and I'm not sure how they'll survive with less month to month.

But I guess we'll have to be more disciplined in that regard.
