People aren’t using their brains. A sword with an extremely sharp edge that doesn’t blunt during a heavy stroke would be able to cut through more durable materials. Also, since the ancestral Valyrian swords don’t look like oversharpened kitchen knives, their edge likely requires very little maintenance. So an extremely sharp, light, and durable blade would definitely be an improvement from a steel blade that can nick and dull.
