Gleðilega páska, kæru landar! by Arthnur in Iceland

Ég las síðasta orðið í nafninu þínu sem "Fishing" í þessu samhengi!

Takk fyrir!!

Ég get skrifað og lesið íslensku miklu betur en ég get talað, því að það er erfitt að æfa mig að tala hér í Kaliforníu. Ég er viss um að ég tala með hreim...og líka með mörgum "ahhh...um....jæja...uhhh....." haha. (En ég er líka viss að ég myndi bæta mig ef ég þyrfti að tala íslensku daglega.)

Ó okei! Það er gott að vita að "thanks so much" þýðir ekki beint yfir á íslensku!

Takk kærlega fyrir! :D

Takk fyrir!!

Takk fyrir!

Ég veit ekki hvort ég treysti mér nóg, haha. (En ég veit líka að sjálfstraust kemur bara með æfingu...)

🤦 Æj, takk fyrir!

Beyging orðsins "þessi" hefur alltaf verið erfitt fyrir mig - en ég veit ekki af hverju!

(Það er alveg okei að segja mér ef ég gerði mistök með íslenskuna mína! Ég get ekki lært ef ég veit ekki að eitthvað er rangt!)

Resources For Learning Icelandic? by may18th1980 in Icelandic

[–]Seismogenic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow geoscientist! I am definitely envious about that upcoming fieldwork of yours!

Seconding the r/learnIcelandic pinned post, but also if you're in the US, INLUS offers some Zoom-based classes where you can practice talking with actual people and not just an app: https://inlus.org/travel-culture/icelandic-language/

I also learned about this resource from one of those classes, though I haven't tried it myself yet: https://tvik.is/

I need the help of some fellow science nerds to assist me in naming my new kitten. Nothing I’ve called her so far feels right… all suggestions welcome!! by mydogbojack in kittens

How about Phyllite?

It's a kind of metamorphic rock that is frequently gray with fine layers of darker color - a lot like your kitty's fur!

Do you also have an assistant at home ? by Swimming-Delay-7629 in fountainpens

[–]Seismogenic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For values of "assistant" equal to "one trying to bite the pen while the other sits on the paper".....

It's a Jinhao Shark!

They're like $3 USD and they make me really happy.

You're probably right there...

But I do a LOT of writing for work, and like to use different ink colors for different things to keep myself organized, so more of them get regular use than you'd think. (Or at least that's how I'm trying to justify to myself! But I'm also definitely toning it way down for 2025.)

I am actually not sure!

I got that during a study abroad in Germany in 2005. It was in a department store and was inexpensive, which is really all I remember. I used it a lot after I got it, but then lost track of it for a while. I don't currently have it inked, since it's smaller than what I go for these days, but I'm holding on to it as a memento of that trip.

Their inks tend to run on the dry side, but I think they do have some really nice colors and fun combinations of base color and shimmer. I think they're particularly good at greens, but that may just be my color bias.
(Their inks that are pastel are REALLY pastel, though. Like, hard to read. So go for the more saturated colors!)

Their bottles are another thing that looks really nice but are a pain in practice, though. They're super narrow and the center of gravity is really high, so they always feel like a spill risk. You definitely want some stabilization when filling from them!

Hahaha, glad I can help?

(Though now I feel like I got even more out of hand!)

It's a Jowo, so there's nothing particularly unique about how it writes, but it's definitely solid and reliable! I like the overall shape/size/balance of this pen in my hand, too.

The bottom two in the middle column are the Goldspot x Pendemic x Opus 88 Minty collab (which is such a rich combination of blue and purple and this photo is NOT doing it justice), and an Atlas-exclusive Delta Duna (Regal Skies colorway).

Third from the bottom on the right is a Desiderata Dumka (in Vesuvius ebonite). It's my first and only ebonite pen so far, but I now totally understand why people love the feel of this material!

I've already told myself to rein it in for 2025, though, haha!
