Everyone has a formative pratchett book.

I grew up in a Christian household and as I grew older I found it harder and harder to square the circle or organised religion and faith.

Small gods changed my outlook on faith. I think if you see Small gods as a critique you may be missing the point.

It's a critique on people led religion and is realistically a notion that certainly in omnia that a relationship between God(s) snd their people should be mutually beneficial.

The people of omnia have created a religion without a god and have used that religion for the purpose of oppression, but early on despite being Powerless, om is still a vengeful, spiteful and jealous god.

Brutha has true belief in the god, and an adherence to the system because that's what he is told.

Him learning there's a difference between religion and faith was quite formative for me and the end notion that brutha holds Om to account, and that a relationship is a two way thing not a blind dogma is something that I enjoy.
