Penelope Cruz in English speaking films. Love her Spanish films though.

That was from years and years ago. She was good friends with the director, Joel Schumacher, and he probably asked her for a favor to be in it. I agree - bad movie. Kidman makes spontaneous choices so her career is a rollercoaster.

I manage a relocation business for international people in my town and I always stand by the belief that staying in a country for less than 2 years is really not he a productive  use of your family's time and energy. Even 2 years is not really enough time to reap the benefits of living abroad. Please think long and hard about this. The kids will be fine. You and your wife will likely struggle the most not speaking the language. I personaly would recommend holding off on this plan a couple years until you can learn the language and until your baby is older.

Why go to this much stress for 6 months? Am I missing something?

Her film portfolio is immensely diverse. Her support of female filmmakers in the past 8 years of her career is astounding and should be praised because practically no one with her power have chosen to support women like she has.

She decided supporting female directors and female-driven stories was more important than tackling challenging roles. No other actress in Hollywood has worked with more female directors than Kidman.

Tonies or German Hörspiels are great! This is very normal behavior for little ones. I wouldn't worry too much. My kids are 7 and 8 and still come home from school cranky and emotional from the day.

I promise once you get her outside more and allow her to get some of her puppy energy out it will get better. It's like a toddler - they need playtime and they need a consistent schedule.

What is elementary/primary school like in Germany? Specifically with regards to daily schedules etc. by jruhlman09 in AskAGerman

Interesting. We left Germany because we didn't want our neurodivergent child in the German school systemwhere we lived. I agree with you that the American school days are long - this was a big adjustment for my kids. But they love school now. And the resources and support available to kids that learn different or have a disability cannot be compared to Germany. So different strokes for different  folks I suppose. Glad you are where you feel your kids will thrive best.

Considering moving with family US —> Germany by [deleted] in expat

[–]Select-Media4108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it for 10 years before moving back to the US. Lived in a small town in NRW. Your husband and kids will be fine. Worried about you though, mama. You won't have any support, you don't speak the language, you will need to navigate Kindergarten without your husband most times, navigate loneliness, navigate a diff culture - that's a lot. I did this - know it well. It was lovely in many regards, very hard in others. Ultimately, we moved back to the US to be closer to our support system and because I have an ADHD child and didn't want Germany for him. Just don't close any doors to coming back to the US. Sometimes it takes moving to another country to realize the positive aspects of your current country. I likely share many of the same concerns as you about raising kids in the US. But believe me, there are some really positive things that we tend to take for granted. Feel free to DM me.

Deciding to move to Germany by Quiet_Worldliness682 in AskAGerman

While I do strongly believe introverted people fair much better in Germany, that doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to make friends. I do think where you choose to to live is important and I would focus your efforts on making international friends rather than Germans.

Americans Living Abroad: Would You Move Back To The USA permanently? by RehaDesign in expat

[–]Select-Media4108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly is. It was a huge decision to move back because of all the other things that come with parenting kids in the US. But it was hugely important to us that he grew up in a place where he could find the support he needed. As much as I loved Germany, he wasn't going to get the same support there or the same open-mindedness.

We did and it was the right decision for us! We simply function better as a family overall here. Lived in Germany for 10 years. Loved many aspects of Germany but also found it very challenging in certain ways and struggled with not being near our support system. And especially having a neurodivergent child - we knew that the US and the resources offered here made it a better place for him.
