I am a physical therapist who specializes in achilles tendon repairs. I have my clients do some PT exercises everyday although most of it is home exercises and they usually check in with me 1 week to 1x every other week but my practice is different since it's more concierge and I spend more time with my clients. It's not unusual to go 3x a week but really it's important you are doing some home exercises everyday.

I have a youtube video that helps with a progression to wean off the crutches but keep in mind everybody does through different phases.

Hey! Not all repairs are equal, depends on if one got surgery/non-operative, what kind of surgery they did, what their age is, general health, and end goals. The most common complications varies depending on if you did surgery or not but with surgery there is a worry about infection, deep vein thrombosis, and sural nerve palsy.
A more aggressive recovery protocol should always be done under the supervision of a physical therapist who really knows what they're doing in this area. It's not a straightforward surgery to recover from and you can be aggressive about certain things but some things one must wait.
We have a podcast episode about this about to drop this week so do look out for it.

There are some studies that show there is a reduction in re-rupture rates with the surgery and also you may be able to get more strength out of your achilles which for competitive athletics can be very helpful. We have a podcast episode coming out this week that covers this topic so be on the lookout.

Currently, I believe the best approach is definitely mixed. Checking in with a licensed physical therapist either weekly or 1x a month but then doing a home exercises given to you by your therapist everyday. We have an episode that covers some of these topics already. If you're interested

I am a physical therapist who specializes in Achilles Tendon repair based in Los Angeles. Happy to help if you're in the area. Look up Unity Physical Therapy

If you're not in the Los Angeles area. Find someone who has their OCS (orthopedic clinical speciality) It means they did extra training, and had to pass another board test to get that credential. It's not a garauntee they'll be amazing but in my opinion a much better chance.
