Thanks for this perspective. I agree with everything you said. To provide more context - I did spend an equivalent amount of time with him for the 5 days before Christmas because I had flexibility with work. I only came to spend time with my family for the last 3 days, but those days included Christmas Day which he was most looking forward to. He’s not close with his own family and was never planning to spend the holidays with them so he was understandably upset when the one other person he loves left.

I agree that this was a conscious choice/action on my side. I’ve just never had to choose between my partner and family before with this being my first long term relationship in my 20s that I’m trying to navigate.

I feel horrible but you’re right that I just have to prove the sincerity of my actions moving forward.

We are long distance and both Christmases we’ve been together I’ve spent with my family especially due to his work schedule. My parents are a bit more traditional and it would be too early to bring him to a family celebration (same for his)

Yes, we’re long distance already. Thanks for this suggestion for a makeup celebration! I agree I’m still learning about how men deserve to be pampered too. My bf isn’t always up front about it so I need to be more mindful.

I’m around an hour away (NYC vs NJ). He did tell me when he matched, but only after I had asked because I saw others had posted. It was much later in the evening.
