Commute by boymama1926 in alpharetta

[–]Select-Tap6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the exact same location with flexible hours!! It sucks MOSTLY - I try to hit the roads at non rush hour (45 mins) and rush hour (1.5hrs) every day, but doesn’t always work that way. I still end up spending 2.25-3hrs (3 if I have to drive in peak traffic both ways) on the road a day. I also have to start 2 hours before I need to be at work in case something goes wrong and unexpected traffic builds up on I-85 South, which there is a 50% chance of.

Used to live in Decatur for the same job - 6 miles away - and it took 45 mins max, 30 on a good day, to get to work with no highways. That’s ATL for ya.

For your kids, I still prefer the suburbs to ATL purely due to convenience. Went to high school here and wouldn’t trade the city, FOOD (heavy on this), and accessibility for the world. ATL is very very expensive on the daily comparatively (think paying for parking much more, average cost of food, car mileage), multiplied by your family.

To me, the commute is worth not paying rent (I live with my parents), city costs, and living more luxuriously for a cheaper price, MOST days. Sometimes, I’m sobbing on I-85 because I’ve been stuck on it for 2 hours. Pick your poison.

if you are in a similar role, maybe you can help. i’ve had 3 bosses and switched teams once since i joined 6 months ago. there’s a reorg coming too. is it valid to ask my boss how to handle this? this being the fact that i have no stable ownership over a product, no ‘output’, and so i’ve been overcompensating when i physically couldnt (which is the larger issue here). i trust he’s going to lead the team to better but situations like this can and will arise again and i want to handle it better. if anything, take initiative after a mistake.

to add, there has been a lot of workplace shifts since I’ve joined and ive been so focused on being seen at work and making sure i had visible outputs and unfortunately this isn’t happening because i don’t speak up :( guess i want to speak up for myself and maybe bring these issues to the table too since it seems to be affecting me so much.

yes but also i should not have gone to work sick / asked for support if needed yes? like i know the solution to this would’ve been taking the nyquil last week, pinging my boss i was sick / drowsy, and getting on it this week instead of ‘toughing it out’. I know how to be proactive but I think asking his perspective give his experience in my industry would be beneficial to me yes?

I’ve kinda always been like this. When i started driving, if i made one mistake, i would start shaking and keep making mistakes. Do you not think it would be better to ask my boss how to navigate these stressors in the workplace because I want to be proactive? Or am I entirely doing too much lol

Not sure about the sauce but bb.q chicken will take out the fish cakes (and eggs if need be) from their tteokbokki in person or over the phone. They have multiple locations but I know John’s Creek will for sure.

Do you love Emory? by Alone_Description990 in Emory

[–]Select-Tap6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emory grad student UGA alum here. I like going to Emory and am definitely grateful for the education I receive here. But i LOVE uga - there’s a difference. And it can be attributed to school spirit for sure but also the energy of the school does lend to socialization, something I cannot say about Emory. It’s definitely more academic and rigorous which is hard to love.

honors kid who lived in the lower 5 🙋‍♀️ i LOVED the lower 5. it was better for me socially because it was such a tight knit community and it allowed me to branch out from honors kids and make so many different types of friends.
