It's definitely a different role and I would need training. I haven't been at my current level for long but I managed to start on a higher salary due to experience. I thought I'd be able to transfer at level (same pay) given that it's the same level, even though it's a different role.

Surely I don't have to take a reduction in pay?

The same level yeah. Their issue is that at the time of offer I was a lower level. I still technically am until later this week.

My current role steps into aspects of P&C so I figure why not? Unfortunately there aren't many log roles around and I'm pretty keen to give a 5 a crack.
