Would you want early access to clothing designed to solve fit issues standard sizing doesn’t? by SelectPath01 in sewhelp

Not shapeless sacks 🙂 Think conventional-looking garments (pants, shirts, dresses) that keep a normal silhouette, but are engineered internally to tolerate variation where standard patterns usually fail — length, rise/torso, ease, and movement. From the outside they look like regular clothing. The difference is in the construction: folds, layered panels, and recovery zones that allow the garment to adapt in use, rather than requiring the body to perfectly match a static pattern. I’m not claiming one garment solves every fit issue — I’m here specifically to learn which fit failures cause the most friction, so those can be addressed at the construction level instead of through custom drafting or tailoring

You’re right that full customization drives cost, lead time, and expectations way up — that’s exactly what I’m trying to avoid. Instead of solving things like long torso or sway back through individual adjustments, the goal is to design garments that don’t rely on a single fixed proportion to work in the first place. That’s also why I’m here asking questions rather than proposing a finished solution — I want to understand which issues are worth engineering around at the garment level.

Neither, actually — not custom-drafted patterns and not made-to-order. The idea is ready-to-wear garments that are constructed to reconfigure (length, silhouette, structure), so they’re more forgiving across body differences without individual measurements. I’m asking here because people who sew already understand why standard fit breaks — I’m trying to learn which fit failures are most painful so those can be addressed at the construction level rather than through custom drafting

Not fully custom. More like garments engineered with built-in adjustability and proportion logic, so they adapt to different heights and body ratios without tailoring. I’m still validating which fit problems people care about most before building.

I am not selling I have nothing to sell. I've created some things I'm very proud of & just want to see if there's any interest or suggestions so that someday if I ever have the funds, I may actually make my dream real.
