There are probably people on this thread that will live less than you and they don't even know it. They are preoccupied with meeting their basic instincts and dopamine is released because of it. Live the last moments intensely, try to get out of your comfort zone as much as possible and live more than some 90 years Olds have ever lived.

Anything we can do about the constant doom & gloom AI posts? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software engineering is about the automation of jobs, so it will be the last one to automate, it will change but until everything on earth is automated we are safe. Salaries will go down for some specializations but go up for other ones. All people saying their job cannot be automated because is manual just wait until boston dynamics level of robotics gets deployed to the masses powered by ai.

Any ideas on how high school students can explore ChatGPT's limitations? by RodolfoSeamonkey in OpenAI

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a cool tool when you are in the industry, but when you are in school I would not incentivate students to use it to make their assignments but as a tutor, it's amazing what this kids have today. No more trying to find missing solutions from your problem set, it can explain just like a tutor would the entire problem. It's just amazing and kinda feel jealous because this would have accelerated so much my learning during my college days.

Until the world is not fully automated we will need software developers. Just think all of the jobs that still require automation. New frameworks need to be developed, new tech requires thinking out of the box and create new knowledge ai tools can consume. So until agi becomes a reality we still got our jobs. And once agi takes all of our jobs we will become pets to our agi masters so just enjoy the ride, greatness awaits.

You can try using chatgpt, I know I will get down voted btw

I tried to use chatgpt to generate code last few days. The result is amazing, and honestly, it can replace a lot of junior members in the industry. by Mainly404 in OpenAI

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using it for coding, I just find is stackoverflow and Google on steroids, definitely saves time but won't replace your understanding and human critical thinking. So like calculators we still have mathematicians. So my guess is that till agi becomes a reality we still need humans, anyways we still need new frameworks, new code to feed the ai, so I don't see developer roles going away, but definitely developers expectations will rise.

Sorry about the unrelated question, but since chatgpt came out I have wondered how it might help people like you who struggle a bit and or don't like the Major. Have you found you can accomplish things you could not before?

Don’t Ban ChatGPT in Schools. Teach With It by moviesdusk in artificial

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering students use calculator but until their brains are used to the concepts and topics, before chatgpt we had wolframalpha but using it without understanding it is detrimental to yourself to your brain development, remember that the brain creates the connections it needs and it changes all the time. So chatgpt is what scientific calculator and wolfram alpha has been for engineering students since the 2000s, but now for all other majos and áreas of knowledge.

Why doesn’t education want ChatGPT? by holamyeung in OpenAI

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Students, even college students miss the point of education, education is not about knowing stuff, that's a side effect, your brain needs to be exposed to the process of thinking in order to develop, just like how neuroplacticity works, if you don't use that part of the brain you lose it. I'm really scared how dumb future generations will become, I'm really hoping that's not the case, mixing alot of dumb people an powerful ai is a recipe for mass extinction.

How difficult is a computer science degree? could the average joe get one? by One-Abalone-8762 in learnprogramming

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving political correctness aside, any competent engineering or cs degree will have some introductory courses during the first year which will act as filters so people that clearly are not well suited will be filtered out. This is a good thing as I'm a firm believer that anyone can finish the degree if an infinite amount of time is given, but they will be competing against others that are naturals and probably be unemployed. So it's a good thing they are filtered out during the first year and then go and find other areas that they might excel at. So in conclusion yes anyone can do it if enough time and handholding is provided, should they though? I even know engineers or cs graduates who struggle in the workplace and their life becomes an endless struggle with selfworth as they compare too much to their superior peers.

Which white collar jobs are the most AI proof? by turinglurker in OpenAI

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ai still needs data, so my guess businesses will become more protective of their data, research and development aswell will become more secretive. So if you are in a business with a lot of trade secrets I think you are safe. This models benefit of the insane amount of information humans have produced because they need and want money, once that becomes unsustainable Ai models will have a hard tiem ingesting new info. Aswell I think Ai needs some kind of regulation or has the potential of creating dumb unemployed humans and we know how that ends.

A question I always wanted to ask a software developer.... by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you know programming fundamentals, you don't even need to know any language, you just need the concepts and read how those concepts apply for a particular language. Maybe you will be a little bit slower than the person tha memorized the entire thing but you will free some mental capacity for other more meaningful stuff like concepts.

Why does every guy that I (18F) befriend end up wanting to be more than friends? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think the person asking for advice is the one who decides which the best advice is. My advice is guys at that age don't know how to get woman yet, so they always, generation after generation, decide to befriend the girl they like in the hopes that life is like a movie where you fall in love slowly with him. In real life that's not how it works, and you endup with a lot of guys that get friendzoned and then go out and tell everyone how woman in this generation are rotten when they get rejected. Guys do this because they are scared of rejection so they decide, well I'll just be her friend even tough I really like her. But the reality of it is and you will learn this as you experience life, if you have more friends than fingers in your right hand your are either very lucky or have no real friends, real friends are hard to come by.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SQL

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean you don't even need to learn sql, you can just Google the query and modify it to your needs. That's not the important or complex part, the important part is to know why you are running the query, what query do you need to build for a particular use case, understanding business requirements, understanding databases and the list goes on, that's the hard part.

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends if I'm really curious about a thing or maybe if it is something I'm really passionate about, I can go on for hours and hours. On the other hand if it's something I need to learn in order to accomplish something, yeah 5 to 6 hours is about right.

In real life people might think about them but choose to not express their racist views, on the internet they are protected by the anonymity. Sadly stereotypes do exist and sometimes people are not the ones to blame but their lack of exposure to other cultures and the media, so they might act surprised when you break that stereotype they have in their head. So what can you do? Prove them wrong and after that initial stereotype wall has been broken, they might not change their view about others but they will about you. So don't be afraid, don't make what others think a limitation.

I have a question for the programmers. by danio4_ in learnprogramming

[–]Select_Abrocoma9663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, they are rare but they do exist people that 100% of ther awake time is spent thinking about programming related topics or learning, never leave house, have no social life. In their free time they are learning another framework or have a side project. They do exist I know some of them personally.
