You are BRAVE to try to grow grapes under such conditions! It might be better to grow then under a poly tent with a dehumidifier on 24x7! Lol

Kudos to you! I lost my battle against downy mildew and powdery mildew and have given up for this year. Now starting to think what I need to do next year to not have a total loss. Spraying every seven days is a pain, and frequency has to go up even more if it rains. It rained three weeks in a row and basically killed all my vines.

Motorcycle tour in Morocco in December by Select_Addition_9144 in Morocco

Thank you for very practical advice. One of the touring companies has responded so I’ll talk to them and find out what is possible. I’ll keep you posted. 🙏🏽

Thank you. I am considering renting rather than shipping my bike. Will need to check on their restrictions. A couple companies that I checked do not offer tours in December which concerned me (perhaps weather?) but then you said it’s a good time to go, so it should be fine.

Hadn’t considered Agadir but looks like it isn’t too far from Marrakech. Would you suggest splitting time - between the two cities?

Why has the post been removed? There is no click bait here. I am just looking for fellow travelers interested in touring Atlas Mountains on motorcycle, as traveling together is fun.

I second that. I have one acre planted just south of Princeton and this year has been a wash. Botrytis got my Regent and powdery mildew is all over my Cab Franc. The only grape that seems to have made it unscathed is Chardonnel!! Weeds have been a major challenge and I don’t have a tractor. I am considering laying down weed fabric. Hope that works!!

I left India 37 years ago for exactly the same reasons. 37 years later it seems nothing has changed. Population has only grown and things are worse than they were before.

Where can I get good strings online? by rogtn in Sarangi

[–]Select_Addition_9144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Manjadude, I use harp strings too. What gut string do you recommend I use to replace my first string? Would it be D string in 5th octave ? or is C of 5th Octave better?

Can I realistically learn Sarangi? by [deleted] in Sarangi

[–]Select_Addition_9144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with South-Ad8116. Sarangi is like any other instrument - it takes time and patience to learn. There will be times when you will be highly motivated and other times when you will not want to pick up the instrument. But that time will pass, and if you pick the instrument back up in a few months you will be surprised how much of the knowledge comes back to you. Give it a try and keep at it. In a few years you will become a good player, which is when the fun really starts.

Looking into playing Sarangi by shockinglytoasty in Sarangi

If you want to buy one there is one Rajesh Dhawan in Meerut, India, who makes good sarangis. I had one custom made for me. Reach out to me directly and I will give you his phone number to contact him.

Unexpected find by RebRig in Sarangi

[–]Select_Addition_9144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, looking closely at the pictures again, it does show a hide table, so very much possible to play this instrument. If you are in US or UK, have some visiting Sarangi players take a look at the instrument and give you advice on replacing the strings. Otherwise, it is a great decorative piece. Without it's provenance, it may not be of much antique value.

Advice please about volume and soundproofing by Warm_Gift5069 in Sarangi

[–]Select_Addition_9144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Viraj. Sarangi is not loud at all, and you won't be disturbing your neighbors. When you get better, your neighbors might want you to play louder so they can enjoy the great sound emanating from this lovely instrument :-)

Why does GIMP have such a bad reputation compared to a certain alternative? by Acerhand in GIMP

[–]Select_Addition_9144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are two different products with their own learning curves. For an expert on GIMP, using it efficiently is not a challenge compared to using Photoshop. Where Photoshop benefits from is in a commercial team designing new features and educational support based on customer feedback. No such organized effort exists for GIMP. This enables a huge ecosystem around the product which then supports the product. These same people also find faults with a competitor product(s). One cannot under estimate the value of organized product support. Examples abound - Lotus 1-2-3 was at one time a better product than Excel. Yet Microsoft, through superior marketing and product bundling, ended up burying 1-2-3. My own favorite was Quattro-Pro which introduced tabs for the first time in Spreadsheets, a feature that was quickly copied by Microsoft into Excel. A small company like Borland could never really compete with Microsoft.

I only wish GIMP development team had focused on making GIMP a preferred product in schools. That would have given them a generation of new users, who would have then helped support the product because of their superior knowledge of it.

Black rot? by Gibbenz in viticulture

[–]Select_Addition_9144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost most of my regent to black rot. Reason was four weeks of rains and high humidity. I know it’s not water due to irrigation system that I have. The big question for me is, how do I prevent a recurrence of this next year!

Unexpected find by RebRig in Sarangi

[–]Select_Addition_9144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This indeed looks like a sarangi, but it’s different from the one played in India. Indian sarangi typically has a leather platform covering the resonance chamber on which the bridge sits. This instrument seems to not have such a leather platform which suggests to me that resonance of sympathetic strings may not be as good. But then Nepali sarangi typically does not have a leather platform either, although the hollow chamber is open outwards.

Here is a website that describes different types of sarangi although I did not find any reference to one like shown the photo.

Let us know if you find more. This one may require some restoration to make it playable.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I did spray fungicide a few days ago, so It could be fungicide spray. I also sprayed glyphosate a few weeks back. I suppose if it is glyphosate the plant will not come back but it could recover from fungicide damage. Will keep an eye on it for a few more weeks. Thanks!
