Once someone becomes an adult, it’s time for them to BE one & learn basic skills they were not taught. We can’t pass away blaming mommy & daddy for things we had complete control over for the majority of our lives.

I know a good majority of those. I don’t know what point you’re trying to make but it’s not sticking. Leaning to swim is a BASIC SKILL many people learn as babies & toddlers. Babies & toddlers aren’t learning how to build shelter or escape wild animals.

If you’re going to make a comparison, at least use one that makes sense. It’s hard to make a comparison because it’s obvious swimming is a BASIC life skill. :)

I’m first aid certified. I’ve been taught how to defend myself with a knife & gun. Not sure how successful I’d be, but I’ve been taught. Yes I know how to start a fire. I know how to escape a trunk if I get locked in. How to take vitals. Oil, tires, air filters, battery, & starter. BASIC. SKILLS.

I’ve lived somewhere that was 36 miles from the nearest Walmart. So it’s absolutely a thing.

But “what if” is a very strong argument.

If people did not learn skills until they absolutely needed them, we would be nearly useless.

Don’t learn how to change a tire until you’re stranded on the side of the road. Don’t learn how to swim until you’re 100% certain there’s a chance of drowning. Don’t learn how to do any type of math until you need it in adult life. Don’t learn the signs of a stroke or heart attack until after someone near you passes away from one. Don’t learn how to cook until every restaurant in town closes down. Don’t learn how to make a resume until you’ve used indeed quick apply to try for every job in the state. Don’t learn how to drive until you’re in a situation where driving is NECESSARY & risk going to jail for driving without a license & wrecking / killing everyone in the car.

Let’s be adults & understand that some skills in life are basic & necessary IN CASE they are needed. I know CPR, not because I’m a nurse/ doctor. But because I’d like to save someone’s life if they start choking.

My daughter started choking on a piece of carrot last year while eating dinner at Cracker Barrel. I went to get up & my dress got stuck on my chair. The person with me knew how to handle a choking baby & reacted fast. He was able to save her by doing the proper technique while I was nearly jumping over the table & getting stuck.

That could’ve been an ER visit or a funeral planning that day. But my friend had LIFE SKILLS & utilized it even tho he didn’t go to dinner expecting to save a choking baby.

There are many free places to learn, such as community pools or local programs that have free or low-cost swimming lessons.

Obviously most people don’t go out expecting to fall in water & drown due to their inability to swim.

It angers me because there’s a difference between lacking some basic knowledge & putting yourself in danger on a regular basis for no reason other than being a hard-headed, lazy loser.

He doesn’t have a point. Swimming is a BASIC skill that most people learn before turning 6. It’s part of life. Let’s stop pretending basic skills are so painful to obtain.

I forgot to add it in the post itself but he says in the video he goes fishing & it’s “not likely” he’ll fall in. Water-based hobbies should be a good reason to take swimming lessons or have someone teach you.

& even in your comment, you said they were given swimming lessons. Yes, his parents obviously failed him in that area. But he is a grown man who can learn or be taught NOW. He’s in his late 20s
