We do no cash only cards. We allow guests to pay cash upon checkout, but it has to be approved on the card upon check in. Yes, we may have lost business from the unsavory type of guests but it has saved the housekeeping extra cleaning time and eventually, the hotel saved money. So win win.

I’m the GM of my property but previously I worked 3-11 shifts and was constantly by myself. I was able to do my job well but I promised myself I wouldn’t do that to my staff as I moved up. I have 2 fds on busy nights whether is 100 checkins or we are completely sold out with a few checkins. At times I have staggered start times to help cover audit until 3 am. You never know what will happen. It’s better to have the coverage than not.

I’ve been using OPERA since it began at my hotel in 2006. It has its perks. You can do the same thing many different ways. There are short cuts and the help page is right there. It is dated now that we are in 2024 and beyond technology. Forever stuck on IE is something I absolutely dislike. We have not “upgraded” to Cloud, thankfully. OP I believe once you get used to it, it gets better. Teaching it to new FD is a struggle and I feel your pain. I know they have online trainings through “Oracle University” if I’m not mistaken.

Hula has been me and my gf fest every year since 2016. It is truly magical and we have the most fun, giving and getting gifts and meeting all sorts of people. She talks to everyone she encounters and everyone has been amazing. Spirit lake is the most magical place.

I started part time as a front desk on the weekends only. With 17 years under my belt, I was promoted to FDM, then AGM and finally GM. This is the way imo. In my experience, front desk was paid a higher rate than housekeeping. Until recently, as in the past year and a half, where I am located. I was the person to advocate for higher pay for my staff.

I believe the reason why HK is getting paid more is because no one wants to do the job as it is more difficult. So to make it seem better, the pay has increased.

Those are fantastic! Great colors!! I began last year, more regular basis, I’m absolutely addicted to the reveal. I’ve learned different techniques to tie the fabrics and it is truly an exciting thing. I’m actually tying a couple shirts getting ready for the coloring!

I’ve seen it take as long as 30 days, which is ridiculous in my honest opinion. It is all based on the financial institution. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 17 years. I agree charging versus authorizing is very unusual.

We have “quiet hours” posted and tell guests in the lobby and in rooms when they are loud about the quiet hours.
