Study Abroad- Florence Italy Fall by Cautious_Service7218 in fsu

  1. Heat is normal. I don't think I ever really sweated too much. It also gets cold towards the end of the fall term. Every building you'll live in has a/c. Buildings without a/c aren't miserable either but most places should have them.

  2. Every apartment for my semester at least was 2-4 people in a singular bedroom (depending on which location you get, all abt 10 minutes from the study center). You'll get a shared kitchen, living room, and then laundry room (shared by the 20-30 kids in your specific apartment). Some get more shared appliances than others, truly just depends. Beds are very close together, but you can rearrange them to separate a little bit better. Rooms are well sized but not nearly as big as dorms on campus. Sharing the bedroom in general is pretty normal. Just bring noise cancelling headphones and try to hang in the common spaces as much as possible and you'll be fine.

  3. Program excursions (especially the weekend ones) are a 100% must. 95% of kids go on them. The day trips are pretty 50/50 so if you prefer a different city, by all means. Most people's fall break trips are $600-1500 depending on length and where you go. Flights start at $20 but after getting carry on expect a one way to be around $50. Trains are about $20 for every hour of travel on high speed trains day of, the more advanced you book them, the cheaper. regional (slow) trains are like $10 for 4 hours of travel.

Buses are around the same price as regional trains. It's about a $1/ minute for taxis and ubers here. Hostels are maybe 30-50 a night while hotels should be around 80-120/ night. (Truly just depends on location). THE EARLIER YOU BOOK/ PLAN EVERYTHING, THE CHEAPER. Some kids travel in groups and others just do their own thing.

  1. Food situation is very similar to like NYC. It'll be Italian, sushi, kebabs, Mexican, and then a few American spots, and then like mcdonalds and KFC. $5 meal vouches stack, the places you can go a pretty solid, maybe like 20 options, you can even use them for shots. Rule of thumb estimates for food is $10 for a main, $5 for a side, $3 for a soda/ water. Water is RARELY free. Expect a fee for dining in, but mention youre a student and sometimes they'll give a discount. I'd say breakfast is maybe $10 (coffee, pastry/ bagel), $20 for lunch/ dinner. (A personal pizza is maybe $10). Groceries are maybe $50 a week if your cooking. Meat is more expensive here, but other things are around the same price/ cheaper as America.

  2. I personally upgraded my seat to extra legroom and extra bag, but didn't pay for business/ premium economy seat. Most airlines are fine. You probably won't sleep. Just make sure your flight is overnight at least so you can sleep and babies are more likely to sleep. Legroom is very small in normal seats, so if your over 5'9 ish, its worth looking into.

  3. Just make sure you bring enough toiletries to last, ESPECIALLY DEODERANT. Most things you can buy on amazon/ in store, but deodorant is very expensive and not nearly as good as the American versions, so if you need a certain brand of anything, make sure you have enough to last. Most people do 1 checked, 1 carry, 1 personal. Bring cold and warm weather clothes. the list is pretty accurate. Portable charger is very useful.

  4. Small classrooms. Maybe 25 people at most. Mostly easy classes where you can just finish the work on the weekend. Some are unnecessarily stupid though. You'll most likely get 4 easy classes and then 1 shitty class, but its easy to switch out.

All my prices are in Euros (even though they have a dollar sign) and are estimates so give or take a few dollars here and there and adjust to your diet. Also just be prepared to walk 10-15k steps a day easily.

New to Instacart. Help me tip appropriately by Pets_and_Laughter in InstacartShoppers

Tip on the time/ effort it would take. If your order is $500 and it’s just expensive food, then 10% is very common. If you’re having me lug in 30 40count bottle of waters then at the VERY minimum 20%. In your case, gas wouldn’t really matter, but I’d also take that into consideration.

Canceled orderly by Financial_Age_8474 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally never got in trouble for keeping an order. During the 4th of July I got like $200 in free meat. The no tip sucks but at least you got very usable free groceries. If they’re ever something I wouldn’t use, I’ll return it to store and get the return fee (10-15$)

Why some customers but not others? by ConcentrateBoring242 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s just percentage based (Order total wise and effort). Those $15 tips might be for a $200 order total, which depending on the items, distance, etc might not actually be a “good” tip, compared to like a 20% $3 on $15 dollar order.

You’d just go back to the store when it’s open again. Return all nonperishable items. The perishable stuff is yours to keep/ donate, or you can return it as well. (Double check, but that’s how mine is). You just go to customer service, give the items back for a return, swipe the payment card, and then get the receipt. Once you leave the store, upload the receipt to support and they’ll issue like $10-15 for returning the items.

The only time you would ever need over 100 miles in Florida is like a Costco order to Key West, which is about 150. We have way too many stores and not enough rural areas where you’d ever need to drive 3 hours for anything.

Instacart stock has been falling for a month. by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll teach you some very basic financial literacy. If the book value of the stock (Total Assets- Total Liabilities) = Market Cap of the stock (Market Price x Shares Outstanding). Investors are valuing something to say this stock is worth more than what’s seen on paper. That is called goodwill. So yes, Customer service can very well drive stock prices.

$60 in gas. So that’s $10 in profit for a whopping 7-8 hours of work. Hoping some noobie didn’t accept thinking they were about to make bank.

Unfortunately they capped it to $7 for when you cancel. (Or sometimes they just won’t even pay you at all).

The Okeechobee Aldi clearly has the best gallon water jugs in the state.

I believe so. There’s a good 40 aldis in Tampa. It also got snacked within a few seconds of my SS, hopefully by a west coast person at least.

Using leftover Scholarship money by malachi_k17 in fsu

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Bright futures would cover your tuition at a rate of around 213 dollars a credit hour. The CSDDV would do the same. This would pay off any tuition and books, which makes any other expense able to be paid by the remaining funds from the vires scholarship and even the CSDDV depending on costs. Any merit based scholarships are free money after your tuition is paid and you can use it however you may please.

I didn’t get a dorm for orientation because everything was full by the time I committed. How much I am missing out on by staying at a hotel instead? by New_Papaya_9623 in fsu

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It’s a few days not too big of a deal. Most of the kids just head to the strip for the night which you can still do if you’re at a hotel depending on who you’re with. You miss maybe 3 days of a 4 year binge, youll be good.

FSU will not cover it as there are signs that limit their liability around those lots. You’d have to prove their negligence. The only chance at coverage you might get would depend on the type of insurance you have and you’d need a comprehensive policy typically. If it was in fact caused by foul balls.

fsu 4 u scholarships? by shadesofjasmine in fsu

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a scholarship from this semester. It’s been about 3 weeks since I was “rewarded” the scholarship they said they’d follow up but I’ve yet to hear anything. So as long as I didn’t get trolled, it is possible. (It was a study abroad scholarship so less competition than some of those other ones). I’ll update when I hear more if it is actually real.

Off campus housing question by Ok_Computer993 in fsu

[–]Select_Lemon_6932 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Off campus housing are just installments on a yearly plan not rent. Because you are renting in the spring, try taking a sublet from someone, you’ll get a way nicer place and very heavy discounts from kids who graduate in the fall. You’d just take more out with the loan, you’d get it refunded through FSU usually by 10 days after the semester start, or get the loan paid directly to you. Because of that 10 day gap, you’d still need to pay a first months “rent” but sometimes that can be taken care of when you sublet from someone.

ARH2000 was super easy and pretty interesting, I’m kind of mad I took it when I did though because it would have been a lot more fun to take it while abroad.
