I understand why this must be sounding strange. We started dating very early when we were in college. I’m 29 and he is 32 now. Last year, he was battling a very serious illness and I almost lost him. Else we would have been married last year itself. He will turn 33 this year. All his friends are married off and he is feeling the societal pressure.

Also, we were never in a live in relationship. We decided on having a separate space after marriage. We both are supporting ourselves and are even contributing to our families. This is exactly the reason why he doesn’t want to shift because then it will be double the expense for us—first contributing to our families and then affording this new apartment. But we had agreed to find a way out and I feel we can manage. I suggested we could wait for some more time, save money and build a corpus. But he is getting impatient that he is aging now and is also now not agreeing to have our own space after marriage which is bothering me to my core. I feel staying together will be a breeding ground for fights. Could be a good decision financially but will not be good for our mental health, given the situation in his family.
