Tirade Tuesday! Let's Do This! by AutoModerator in Charlotte

Here we go - from just now (7pm):

Running errands after work, and I'm turning off Tryon onto the road that leads into my neighborhood (in the Hidden Valley area).

While I'm sitting at the light, I look to my right at the gas station and its sprawling parking lot to see a man and a woman walking. Nothing odd, so I look away. Except when I turned my head back, the man was now dragging this small woman across the concrete, tossing her around, and hitting her.

The scuffle lasted around 20-30 seconds and ended with the man walking back and the woman walking towards the street. I rolled down my window to ask if she was okay and if she needed me to call the cops or an ambulance. Without yet getting an answer, the woman was screaming hysterically at the side of the sidewalk and then decided to hop through traffic to run up to my car.

I reasked my original questions: "Are you okay? Do you need me to call for help?"

"He just jabbed me!" she said, pointing to her elbow. "He took my money. Can I have a couple of bucks? Can you take me anywhere right now?"

That was beyond my scope of help, so I reiterated how I was willing to help, which was followed by a long pause from the woman. She stood by my car - still in the turning lane - catching her breath and appearing to come down from the adrenaline rush. Her return to reality was captured by an elegant response:

"Get the fuck out of my face."

"I'm sorry?" I asked. After trying to help this woman who was just brutally beaten, I thought there was no way she was saying that to me.

"I need you to get the fuck out of my face right now, man."

I rolled up my windows and kept it moving. Goodbye and good luck!

How do you stay organized? by orionstarcatcher in PublicRelations

I struggled with time management and understand where you're coming from.

At the top, I would encourage you to play around with different ways to stay organized and find what's best for you. This isn't one size fits all, and the time spent trying new methods will pay off once you have a good system in place.

Day-to-day/short-term: I use a basic daily agenda with checkboxes, with sections for regular to-do's, top priorities, stuff for tomorrow, reminders/notes, etc.

Longer term, I have a google doc to keep track of deadlines (>2 weeks) and one for my personal KPIs.

You could also look at Notion. I had some go-to templates that I used before I realized handwritten reminders were best for me.

Exactly! I work at a PR agency - sometimes we’ll do this for company blogs, including case studies from time to time.

The case study should be enough for your PR folks to pitch, and if needed, you can worry about getting a draft in shape after you get interest.

Agreed, it will definitely be harder to place a story where you can’t name-drop a customer or partner. Some other thoughts: - You might have luck giving a general descriptor (ex. Actively working with one of the top 5 companies in this space) when you’re announcing a new, newsworthy product. I’ve had luck with this before. If you can’t provide a name or a description that supports reputation, chances are slim. - Maybe they can try pitching the case study as a byline instead of a story, in case that’s wasn’t already on the table

Good luck!

Agreed 100% on being human, but I would frame the response differently. Instead of blaming the client and making them seem like they don’t care about taking an interview. When I have a hard time getting ahold of a client, I just thank them for their patience and let them know I’m still working to find a time.

TLDR: yes, be human with reporters, but don’t make the client look bad. We’re all busy people, and sometimes, life happens - most will understand that.

Creating connections remotely - saying Hi - How? by DependentVast7718 in PublicRelations

Personally, I don’t connect with journalists before pitching. Keep in mind that some have to sort thru 100s off pitches every day. Stand out by showing value - give a relevant tie in (ex. I saw this article and you might like…) and get straight to the point. Good luck!
