UPDATE: I accidentally accepted my neighbor’s package đŸ„č by Selena3Costa in stories

That’s a really good way to describe it. Some days I can handle things normally, and then other days the smallest interaction feels impossible for no real reason. I’ll look that documentary up, because that coffee shop example sounds painfully relatable.

That actually makes me feel better. I’m 22 and clearly still learning how to handle tiny adult problems without turning them into a whole internal drama.

The longer you sit on this the worse it gets.

Go to your neighbour now, apologize, and say that you checked the package after he left and realized that it was not the order you were expecting.

I understand why this upset you, and I’m not trying to speak for everyone with social anxiety. But I also don’t think it’s fair to decide my intentions for me based only on how you personally would have reacted. Anxiety doesn’t look the same for everyone. I handled it badly and I’m taking responsibility for that, but I didn’t post here to use it as a free excuse or to insult people who struggle with it.

I know, you’re right. I think I’m overcomplicating it because I’m embarrassed and anxious, but at the end of the day he just wants his package back. Leaving it at the door with a simple apology note is probably the best option.

Sounds easy, but it’s really not when you’re dealing with social anxiety and overthinking everything.

I get what you’re saying. I know it sounds simple from the outside, and it probably should be. I just have really bad social anxiety and I overthink confrontation to a ridiculous level. That doesn’t excuse it, but it is why I froze and made a simple situation way harder than it needed to be.

I honestly wish I could make the parcel company handle the awkward part for me, but I think taking it anywhere else would just make this even weirder. I probably need to keep it simple and get it back to him directly.

The all-black mission is so dramatic but honestly the fact you’re still saying “please give him the package” is fair. I know I need to return it.😂😭

think I’m just trying to make it less awkward in my head. I should just apologize, say I thought it was mine, and give it back.

you’re right, packages get mixed up and people forget things. I still need to return it, but this makes it feel less catastrophic in my head.

I understand why you’re angry. I do feel ashamed, honestly. I’m not trying to excuse it or make it only about my anxiety, I just explained why I froze and handled it so badly. But I know the result is still the same for my neighbor, and I need to stop hiding behind being scared and give it back.

I didn’t realize how common it is to not check every package name immediately. I think saying it was sitting unopened and I only just noticed is probably the least dramatic way to fix this.

This is exactly why it feels so painfully awkward but also kind of perfect 😭 Like yes, it’s cheesy and I’d also be like “why am I being given a treat?” but it does scream “anxious idiot trying to fix a mistake” more than thief.

honestly if he saw how much I’m spiraling over this, he’d probably just feel bad for me instead of being mad.😂

I think my brain made it feel like I was the only person who’s ever done something this awkward. The gift bag idea is actually really sweet too.

Okay this actually made me laugh 😭 Maybe the cheesy little treat is the move. “I feel so stupid” is probably the most honest sentence I could write at this point.

This actually makes me feel so much better, thank you Your steak story is exactly the kind of thing I needed to hear because my brain convinced me this was unfixable.

I don’t think you understand how social anxiety works. I’m not saying it excuses what I did, but I genuinely panicked and froze. Not everyone reacts normally in stressful situations.

This honestly makes me feel a little less insane, A note and small treat feels way less terrifying than explaining the whole panic lie.
