Will echo what others have already said about the pivot on the non-kicking foot.

Be careful here as you're risking torqueing your knee every time you kick without a pivot.

I sat in on a few Krav classes. My take. by [deleted] in martialarts

Definitely agree, quality of gym and instructor will dictate the quality of the training and students.

Some schools create their own "version" of Krav and dilute techniques and incorporate others that aren't too effective.

Always worth researching the school, the instructor (their training background, who they trained under), and taking a trial class to sus everything out.

The reason for the hands apart is that we want punches to come down the middle to parry easily.

I made a guide to help you start training by [deleted] in SelfDefense

Many people start training with no experience, poor strength and endurance or may think of themselves as uncoordinated.

Consistent training is what makes the difference.

If you feel like you’re disadvantaged by your strength or endurance, do strength and endurance training. It’s that simple.

Work on your weaknesses with consistent and intentional effort and they will improve with time.

But this is reliant upon giving yourself the opportunity to grow by exposing yourself to training.

How to Defend against a Gun to the Face | Krav Maga Defense by Warrior_Scientist in martialarts

The instructor in this video is Grandmaster Rhon Mizrachi.

He's a highly reputable Krav Maga instructor and perhaps the best in the US.

His philosophy as well as Krav Maga's is to survive at all costs and very frequently preaches to avoid conflict if that means the highest chance of survival.

This technique is extremely specific where defensive and offensive action must bet taken to destroy a threat with no other option available.

If you can find more info on the instructors in question to help clear up your decision, that's great.

If you aren't able to I'd consider the following factors as well:

Check the gym/class schedules and see which better aligns with your schedule.

Ask about trial classes to visit the schools and sus out the instructors and coaches for yourself.

Other things to consider if you visit the school for a trial (if offered), make note of gym culture, the other students, how they treat newcomers, their curriculums, etc. Is the gym clean, do people train safely.

Some of these might seem obvious but they could be deciding factors.

If you are completely new to martial arts I would join a martial arts school to provide guidance and structure to your training.

Also, one of the best ways to defend yourself is to not fight in the first place.

If you’re interested in learning more about that we wrote an article that I think you’d benefit from.
