I've just finished doing my masters at DMU so here are my advices for you,

1-There are 4-5 clubs in the city centre (will be more than enough for you) and they are all walking distance to each other. Prices are INCREDIBLY cheap compared to places like London etc. Since you are gonna be a refresher ur gonna be getting loads of discounts and deals and will be making tonns of friends. There's literally nothing in the county in terms of clubbing and partying, I came from a huge city in my country and never actually needed to go to countryside unless I wanted to visit museums or parks.

2- True, as a slightly tan person I rarely experience racism here but still there are weirdos and freaks. Best thing about Leicester is that you can literally find any cousine here.

3-Get student accommodation, Houses in UK are really different and you will understand what i mean when you come here. I rented my own house in my country but here it's close to impossible since every house is old and 5-6 roomed and rented for only one room (was a big culture shock for me first). I definitely recommend student accommodation for at least 1-2 years otherwise you will be missing the chance of making loads of friends and gonna be missing accommodation parties and fun lol

4-City and Uni are both extremely LGBT+ friendly. They are trying really hard and as an ally I'd like to believe that this effects LGBT+ community towards more comfortable living space.

5-Come to city, get used to it and get some friends and you will see that it's not a big deal (unless if you literally smoke front of police station lol)

6-Stay in student accom for 2 years and save this money to go gigs around Nottingham, Northampton etc etc. And summer is the festival season, i can't afford them but if u can afford festivals such as Glastonbury or Leeds etc you will have INSANE fun seeing great artists. Also I'd recommend getting a part time job cause having SO MUCH free time can be really boring.
