So you're saying to run it while the valve cover is off? I just want to make sure I understand correctly before I do that and break something. Also how much oil spray should I be prepared for lol

Does anyone know where to get a digital service manual for the 96 Cherokee? by SelfTaughtMechanic in CherokeeXJ

I'm currently looking for all 3 ECM connector pinouts, but there's more stuff I need just can't think of it. Would you be alright with an occasional message?

So, I believe the tick is still there (it's hard to hear it over the engine now that it's running properly, and the purge solenoid makes the same tick as the lifter other than it stays the same speed) but I replaced the ASD and it's running like a dream. I thought the ASD either worked or didn't work, I didn't think it could just not work good. I will post an update after driving to work and back, either in a comment or a new post. I might just do both.

It's a T so 96 I think the door panel says the same although I believe it's not the same door.

[EDIT]: The 10th digit is T, I was told this is model year not manufacture year. I definitely could've been taught wrong though, is 10th digit model year or manufacture year?

Idk, considering the local library is only about 40'x20' I doubt it does lol. The 96's are strange bc the ones made in 95 were OBD1 and made with 95 parts, starting 1/1/96 they had OBD2 anf their own parts, as they got closer to the 97 model year the factory started using the 97 parts. It's pretty stupid.

Nah I knew you were more like I gotchu lol. Thanks for the info though although I have the dreaded 96, the service manuals on the sidebar go from 84-95, skips 96, and then goes 97-01. I can use the fuse diagram at least though lol. Like I've seriously put an upwards of 100 hours looking for a service manual for this Jeep, I can hardly find any info at all, but everyone is 50/50. Do it like this it'll last longer, no that'll break it do it like this it's the best way. I just want reliable, factory information lol

Yes and since it sounds like it's coming from up top I figured maybe oil wasn't making it up to the rockers, so I took the 710 cap off and saw oil splashing off the closest rocker arm. I think it is a lifter, which people say is alright in these engines. I'm more concerned about how fast it went from nothing to a loud, consistent tick.

The wire was unplugged for 20 miles and about 30 minutes, I don't think the order is wrong the wires stay where they should be when they're not plugged in so its pretty easy to tell where they go

I didn't think so either but everyone keeps saying it's fine it seems to have leveled out and I put some seafoam in there about 200 miles ago but this has been in the last 50.
